2023. Me. Smiley. Sillee. Simplee. Me. Free. Easy. Breezy. Mostly. Sometimes lonely. Saddee. But only one, two, maybe three, times. I was in so many climes. In tanks. Toques. Swimmers. Shawls. I slid on snow, waded in water, ran in rain. I worked, waited, but wasted no time. Filled my moments with things, and nothings, but always intentionally so. Most of all, i opened my arms to people i love, and held them close, never letting go. 2023, like 2024 or any other year for that matter, i am me, dashing through the snow, wiping away that tear, jumping through the roof, keeping my head above water, eyes wide open. I sang this song last night, and i’ll sing it with you now: “…and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, i hope you dance, i hope you dance.

It’s press week and premiere screening of @paramountplus ‘s full length animation #tigersapprentice! I’m armed with the world’s most powerful passport, my gorgeous @igcasia outfit, a luggage full of pretty Singapore-designed clothes to show off to US press. and a heart full of pride and excitement to show this work to the world. i remember the very first time i recorded for this. It was in 2020. The world was thick into covid, the air was dense with fear, everybody everywhere was trying to covid-rise their life and their work and recording for a full-length animation feature from a big studio like @paramountplus was no different. I was quarantining at The Sutton Hotel, Vancouver, ready to start filming the pilot of @cw_kungfu, a reimagining of the 70s hit for @thecw (we’ve had 3 glorious seasons over 3 years since then!), and the brilliant Vancouver sound studio, @postmodernsound sent over exquisitely packed professional recording equipment in equally professional looking recording equipment audio hard-cases and bags, complete with laptops for producers and directors to Skype in to guide, listen and steer my voice acting. The set-up bible was meticulously written and composed in a hefty file complete with photos. The instructions given were so easy to follow, so detailed and well thought through. I was also given a live guide as I was setting up the equipment. My OCD DNA was utterly impressed and optimally delighted and satisfied. I play Mrs Lee, the Grandmother of the lead Tom played by the fab @brandonsoohoo and friend of Hu, played by my fellow @crazyrichasians alumni @henrygolding. Mrs Lee’s arch enemy? My other CRA alumni, @michelleyeoh_official! Playing the lethal Loo. I have enjoyed every step of this journey with this intrepid team. I think every character records solo so I have never been in the same room with any of the other actors, but oh my, I am in such esteemed company and I cannot wait for you to see how everything turned out!
