WISHING YOU A LOW-EXPECTATIONS CHRISTMAS
No one ever takes photos of me.
Today at the beach I kissed my kid right after I’d put zinc on her face.
“Do I look funny?” I said.
“Let me take a photo of you,” she said.
Did you know I have a FOOD podcast?
It’s called 5 Minute Food Fix @5minutefoodfix because most episodes run about 5 minutes long and it’s with a highly respected cookbook editor and author @simonnpdavis who’s English and wry and verbal and hilarious and 💯 my favorite person to talk about food with.
Please find the podcast, subscribe to it and share it with your friends because it’s our project and the more people that listen the more chance it has to 🪴. Also follow the Instagram account! @5minutefoodfix
Here’s a look at some of the food I’ve been eating over the past week or so.
1. A brioche bun filled with NOODLES! Yes, NOODLES. And a fried egg. And bbq sauce. I didn’t eat this — this was my friend Lisa’s audacious choice. She said it was epic.
2. The healthy bowl I got while Lisa was having her noodle burger. Perfectly balanced 👌🏽, no onion, no regrettable bits.
3. The jam I made because I love my neighbour and she fucken loves my jam. More about jam in our cookbook (THE FOOD FIX) and on our podcast.
4. My kid Dee Dee brought these home from the shops to share with me because she noticed that between parenting and working and seeing friends and going for runs I often eat really miserable sfuff like kid leftovers or a 3 packets of chips for dinner.
5. My self care routine *may* sometimes involve going to a restaurant by myself and ordering seafood pasta and eating r.e.a.l.l.y slowly, while reading an actual book (not my phone), without interruption. I ordered this twice and will probably order it again.
6. Dee Dee convinced the smaller kids to try cottage cheese via this clever ruse!! Wafers and watermelon 🍉!
7. Out for dinner with @mrbenjaminlaw at a sushi train that didn’t strike terror in my colon/ lower bowel.
8. Got out the dehydrator. There’s definitely the creation of a Hiking Food cookbook or guide in my future.
9. Home-made granola. We talked about how to do this in one of our podcast episodes and the crystallised ginger, which you can’t really see in this picture, is GENIUS in the mouth.
I totally get people asking “Where is this?” Or “what restaurant is that?” but I tend not to answer because… (continued in comments…)

Me grabbing onto the new year because it’s gonna be so much better than the old year
Had to take the kids into work today.
There were about 4 other sets of parents doing the same thing and their facial expressions were all matching — looking like this: 😵💫
Lol.
2 saintly women I’ve never laid eyes on before took all the stray kids in hand and had them decorating cookies with piping bags of icing and sweet pretzels and lollies and got the kids BUSY.
One of these amazing ladies (could they have been elves🎄?) also had brought to work her DEEPLY CUTE PUPPY and someone supplied a tower of pizza (saints!) and kept all the grommies entertained while @osher_gunsberg and I laid down music trivia, industry gossip, LOLs and celebrity name-dropping for our digital music channel I Heart Trivia.
(I hope you’ve tried to listen! Basically stream it from any radio source, @iheartradioau is your best bet.)
Anyway, after this I took the kids to meet @traceyspicer who’s been holding my Tupperware hostage for something like a year and we swam and yakked and larfed and let the sun take its time and the kids take their time and it was magic and I love you all.
HAPPY AUS MUSIC T-SHIRT DAY 🤗
A lot of the music industry’s hardest workers have insecure employment, no health insurance and no or little superannuation.
Support them and the music creators you love by wearing your best Band T-shirt! @supporract have a bunch of hot t-shirts to make you look saucy as you raise funds and awareness. Yeah they do.
Also, @osher_gunsberg and I dedicated a whole bunch of Trivia questions to this very special day on I Heart Trivia. Find it on I Heart Radio @iheartradioau and play along! 🎹🎸
ZINC CREAM FOR THE WIN 🏆
40°C day.
Steering wheel so hot I could barely touch it.
3 kids with hat allergies 😂
Sydney, you’re brilliant ❤️
One week since this episode dropped and I’m still getting texts, DMs and people stopping me in the street to quote their favourite lines 😂 and snort laugh. It’s loving, it’s respectful and also deeply, deeply funny.
One of the greatest Ladies We Need to Talk episodes yet. 🦝🐟🗑️☀️
