Someone recently asked if I was on steroids. Yes, I use steroids to paint and AI to lift weights! GTFOH! Sorry to disappoint, it’s all just pure hard work and slow progress with questionable benefits. But life is about nothing if not struggle and slow marching towards oblivion. BTW, in this image you can see where the airbrushed base ends and paintbrush rendering takes over. I don’t mask and let the airbrush overspray and then sharpen and render with a brush. I prefer that more organic and unified look to precise masking.

I’ve never painted TMNT before, and I probably never will again, but I wanted to do the most tank like version that I could. I don’t think this guy would be sneaking up on anyone, more just plowing through everything in the way. Acrylic paint on watercolour board
I’ve mentioned before about glazing in acrylics and separating layers with acrylic medium to build up glazes of colour and the effect the light has bouncing through them. My art responds a lot to changing light as it penetrates all of the layers and reflects all the way down from the grisaille underneath. It’s a process I really like and it results in original art that is quite alive. This is also why I photograph it as I can play around with light to capture some of that life instead of letting the scanner flatten it. P.S. the varnish is wet hence the wet look. #ironman #marvel #adigranov

Still my favourite page of sequential art I ever did. Back from 2008. Steampunk X-Men. Loved the whole idea. I designed that air-ship just for this, but even today I still love it.
