Aloe Blacc – Wake Me Up (Live Performance) | VEVO Avicii and Aloe Blacc made quite a team. The world was introduced to the American singer’s deeply compelling vocals on the Swedish producer’s 2013 global hit, “Wake Me Up.” Avicii was taking a pop strain of EDM to the next level, and Blacc’s soaring voice helped ignite one of the most inspiring tracks of the last decade. Avicii’s 2018 death left a sizable hole in the music, but on this year’s ‘Tim,’ a release of tracks the young producer had been working on prior to passing, gave us another valuable collab: the two paired up for the track, “SOS.” Blacc, who impressed lots of fans with “The Man” a few years ago, swung by to update “Wake Me Up” and give us personalized spin on “SOS.” They came out great. It seems like we have gone from the era of the album to the era of the single. I’m old school, so I still prefer a good long play. An album is a special thing. This album was a blessing to make. I got to work with amazing collaborators. Some of the very best in the business. As I get older and wiser, I reminisce on the journey that got me here and I’m grateful for all those who shared the road with me.

My first solo album! Words can define your reality. They can shape your reality. They can limit your reality. Be intentional with the words you choose and the language you use. It all matters more than you can imagine. Live into the dreams you have! Speak them into existence. Each of my album titles are a positive affirmation, and they all have brought me good things.

20 years ago when I started on my solo artist journey, I experimented with lots of styles and sounds. I tried every genre and vibe just to stretch my skill set and learn more about myself and music. This song was a strange beast melting my interests in dance, house, hip hop, new wave, and RnB into an avant-garde stew. It became the A-side on my first release as a solo artist. So many amazing things happened for me during this time. As I complete another year and enter a new phase of life I look back on these days with gratitude and nostalgia.
