How did I get so lucky? Happy Valentine’s Day to my best friend, @MichelleObama!
On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, let’s help girls everywhere pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
At the White House Science Fairs, we used to invite young people from across the country to share their ideas and hard work. I always looked forward to it. One year, I met this talented group of Girl Scouts from Tulsa, Oklahoma who saw the impact of devastating floods in Colorado and designed a flood-proof bridge using Lego bricks. They also brought me some pretty great headgear.
Our world is better with the ideas and perspectives of girls like them. So let’s make sure we do our part to give them the support and tools they need to reach their full potential.
Black History Month is a time to recognize all the ways Black culture has shaped American life — from our music and art to our literature and sports. Let’s celebrate the perseverance, courage, and tenacity of those who paved the way for us, and do our best to follow in their footsteps.

Harry Belafonte was a barrier-breaking legend who used his platform to lift others up. He lived a good life—transforming the arts while also standing up for civil rights. And he did it all with his signature smile and style. Michelle and I send our love to his wife, kids, and fans.
Fifteen years ago today, I signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law. It was named after a woman who had spent most of her career at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company before discovering that she’d been paid far less than her male counterparts.
The day I signed the bill, I thought about Lilly. But I also thought about my mother and grandmother, and all the women across the country who had ever been paid less than they were worth or passed over for promotions that ended up going to less qualified men. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was a way to honor them.
Today, the fight for equal pay continues. The Biden-Harris administration is building on the progress we made by identifying more ways to advance pay equity. Congress can do their part by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would improve pay transparency and help close wage gaps in the workforce.
When I was in college, I came across the book Working by Studs Terkel. It was a chronicle of people from every walk of life, and the work they did. Reading those stories, I started to consider my own place in the world, and understand how connected we are to one another. The book helped inform the choices I made in my own work. And in this current moment of great change, when we are all trying to figure out what the future holds, I thought it would be useful to pick up Studs’ project and go looking for the types of stories that shaped my life all those years ago.
In Working: What We Do All Day, a new series from @HigherGroundMedia, I had the chance to meet with Americans working in industries like hospitality, technology, and home care to understand their jobs and hopes for the future. I hope you’ll check out Working on @Netflix on May 17.
More than 21 million people signed up for health care during open enrollment. That’s an all-time record, and it’s thanks to the hard work of the Biden Administration.
The Affordable Care Act is here to stay, and it’s helping millions of people get the health care they need. Let’s keep expanding it and making it more affordable for generations to come.

This month marks the 10th anniversary of the @MBK_Alliance, an initiative we launched in the White House to provide support, mentorship and opportunities for boys and young men of color.
To celebrate this milestone, I want to introduce you to some of the inspiring young people and community leaders I’ve met over the last decade — starting with Trey Baker. Trey joined the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance as a rising high school senior in 2021, and now he works as a Youth Outreach Coordinator for the Lake County Gun Violence Prevention Initiative in Illinois.
Take a look at his story:
Thanks to the @MBK_Alliance, Freddie Golden was able to participate in a cultural exchange program that helped him travel to London. Now he’s a sophomore at Morehouse studying computer science, and hopes to use his talents to invent new technology that can change the world. Hear how the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance has impacted his life:
Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, Thaddeus Jones, Jr. credits organizations like CHAMPS and the @mbk_alliance for helping him stay busy and grow as a student and leader. Through the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, he even had the chance to attend the Final Four in New Orleans and learn more about careers in sports. Check out Thaddeus’s story, and how he’s working to create a better life for himself and his family:
