Chris Burkard Instagram – “Haddi always made you feel that you were home. In his hugs, in his smile, and especially in the sky. In fact after he passed, Chris and I had a hard time coming back to Iceland…because there was a giant haddi shaped hole here…there still is. Full of joy, charisma, and strong opinions he was unashamed in who he was and he inspired and encouraged everyone around him to live their truth also. I don’t like to think of today as the anniversary of losing him… I prefer to think of today as the beginning of his legacy. He lives on in the humor of his kids, the strength of his love gunnsa, and in everyone who ever shared the cockpit with him. I think of you every time I’m trying to work on pronunciation in Icelandic class and every time I have the urge to call Chris “Chrissy-poo”…your bromance was legendary. We miss you. ❤️” – @brea_face
Chris Burkard Instagram – I jumped out of bed this morning for an early ski touring lap to catch sunrise… but much to my surprise I saw a warm glow radiating from the Reykjanes Peninsula and realized that a new volcano just erupted. I texted my assistant @joelbarger_ from the top of the mountain – who grabbed our long lens and nailed the shot just looking over the bay not far from our new studio. It’s moments like this in Iceland that continue to amaze me… a juxtaposition of normal life and sometimes devastating elements, locals continuing their day like any other Thursday but a beautiful fiery chaos erupts less than 45 minutes away.
