This song is just a little bit Christmassy… At long last! 39 years later, WHAM! have claimed the Official UK Christmas Number 1 with ‘Last Christmas’ for the very first time 🎄🎶 The song has truly stood the test of time and this is the greatest and most honourable gift the fans could have given to ‘Last Christmas’. George would have been so incredibly touched by this support and achievement. We cannot thank you enough 🤍
At long last… We have claimed the Official UK Christmas Number 1 with ‘Last Christmas’ for the very first time in its near 40-year history! 🎄🏆 We are so delighted by this and cannot thank the fans enough for their continued love and support that they show to the song every year. What an incredible achievement – George would have been so proud and delighted by this ❤️
28 years ago George released one of the songs he was most proud of as a solo artist – ‘Jesus To A Child’ 🤍 “It’s a special song. It was one of those songs that just felt like it was handed to me. I didn’t have to try very hard. It came naturally. It was recorded over five days but written in just a couple of hours.” – George talking about the song. #GeorgeMichael #90sMusic #JesusToAChild
‘Last Christmas’ tops the UK @officialchart for the second week 🎄 This is the first time the track has spent 2 consecutive weeks at the Number 1 spot and the fifth time it has reached Number 1 in the UK. The track has also gone 6 X Platinum in the UK and the US and has had over 1.6 BILLION streams worldwide. What an incredible achievement – George would have been so delighted by this. Thank you once again for all the love and support you continue to show the song 🤍
#ThrowbackThursday to ‘Kissing a Fool’ which was released in November 1988! George recorded the vocals for the song in a-cappella in one take 🎶 The song was actually written years prior in 1984 en route to Japan for WHAM!’s Make It Big Tour. #GeorgeMichael #KissingAFool #80sMusic

📸 George behind the camera. George had a keen eye and was always his own creative director. He understood the power of video and took the mainstream music video to places it hadn’t been before – often by removing himself from them entirely.

“I’m standing there just freaking out. I’m on the other side of the mic from Aretha Franklin and she’s treating me like an equal—obviously I’m not, but she was treating me with such respect.” – George on working with Aretha Franklin. #OnThisDay in 1987 the duo released their duet, ‘I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)’, it was a #1 hit in both the UK and US 🎶 #GeorgeMichael #ArethaFranklin #LiveMusic #80sMusic

“Let’s go outside, in the sunshine…” ☀️ Rather than letting the backlash of his sexuality discourage him, @georgemofficial leaned right into it. Donning this police uniform in his 1998 music video for “Outside,” George paved the way for a generation of openly queer artists like Adam Lambert and Sam Smith.
