Merry (Ouch!) Christmas Hi friends, I like to extend Holiday greetings on a neutral day. So, I hope that no matter what day or days you celebrate, we can all be thankful for our good fortune and abundance, and do what we can to bring joy to those we love and encounter along the way. Speaking of which, on my way northwest between Thousand Oaks and Santa Barbara this afternoon, I was startled by the sound of crunching metal. Traffic had backed up on the 101 northbound just southeast of Oxnard, and the driver behind me had dropped his cell-phone. As he bent over to pick up his iPhone from the passenger seat floor, he lost sight of the SUV directly ahead in his lane. That would be Me! I collected myself, swung open my driver’s door, and headed back to confront this bone-head. He was around my age, healthy looking, totally apologetic and cooperative. It was apparent that he felt really bad, but he maintained his sense of humor as he offered his insurance info and said … “So sorry man, you hurt? I’m a chiropractor, and I’ll adjust you right here.” Luckily I am okay, just minor damage to the back of my car. So yeah, I got rear-ended by a chiropractor. Only in Southern California! And so we bid a fond farewell to 2023, and look forward to the endless possibilities of ‘24. Let’s all get the new year off to a positive and loving start. I hope to see you all soon. … much love, kc

Hi friends, I am very fortunate that my years with REO Speedwagon have allowed me to be a guest vocalist w/ some amazing “house bands” at various charity events during REO down time. Most recently I joined my friends in the @thejimirsaycollection for another night of good fun & great music at the Shrine Auditorium in LA. The mood was a combination of somber & joyful. Somber due to the illness of our leader & benefactor, a man as generous of spirit as with his riches, humble, respectful, and loyal, and a lover of music and everyone involved in creating it, a man I am proud to call a friend, the inimitable Jim Irsay. I wish Jimmy the best as he faces this terribly tough challenge, and I have faith that he will come through it stronger than ever. Jim wanted the concert to go on, with or without him, and we all dedicated every note we played and sang to his recovery. I was honored to be among the guest singers that night, all giants in their own right: Ann Wilson of Heart, Peter Wolfe of the J. Geils Band, and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. I think you can feel my joy in these photos from my performance, as this amazing band lifted me up and put their masterful imprint on my songs. As I write this, the REO boys & I are on a flight from LA to Orlando, for a co-headline show with @styxtheband on Thurs. night. It will be great to see Tommy, JY & the boys, and the great audience our bands attract when we join forces. We will be playing a new & exciting setlist this year, & the band is raring to go. The 2024 tour begins on 3/20 in Reading, PA w/ @rickspringfield & lands in Estero, FL w/ @cheaptrick on 4/6. I will be writing about our adventures as our tour winds its way through Charleston, Knoxville, Columbia, Montgomery, St Augustine, & many points in between. You can check reospeedwagon.com for a list of tour dates. We will be announcing a very special summer tour later this month, & are stoked to be sharing the stage w/ an awesome band w/ an amazing lead singer that we have never played with before. So stay tuned! … kc Pictured above at the Shrine Auditorium: kc with @kennywayneshepherd, with @bbranch103, and with Tom Vukovich, and doing his “lead singer thing”.

Hi Friends, I just learned the sad news about the passing of legendary free-form DJ and old friend, Jim Ladd. Richrath and I talked with Jim up at his Laurel Canyon pad for his InnerView program several times over the years, and I looked forward to each session. He was one of the last of his kind; a true broadcast artist who played the music he loved by the bands he loved, and we all loved him. I was talking about how it had been too long since I had seen or spoken to Jim, just the other day. I wish I would have called him right then. Rest in peace amigo. … kc

Hi friends, so it’s Monday here in Las Vegas, and I am in town for @eddietrunk’s 40th anniversary celebration at the Hard Rock. @sammyhagar and I are heading over for soundcheck in a few minutes, and the show tonight will feature a long list of rockers, all of whom are in Eddie Trunk’s speed-dial. Eddie is a walking encyclopedia of rock and roll, and a major rock-fan, with a daily show on @siriusxm. I flew into Vegas from a weekend of acoustic/charity shows that Dave and I played in the Boston area, hosted by our buddy Ernie Boch. Ernie is a kind and generous soul, a fun guy to hang with, and just happens to be a billionaire. It’s the season for giving back, and our shows benefitted Ernie’s “Music Drives Us” foundation. The foundation grants funds to various schools and music programs, providing free instruments and funding for music education in the New England area. I don’t know where I would be today, if not for that fifty-cent-a-week rental six-string I got when I was eleven years old. The guitar has been my constant companion ever since, and has helped me through some challenging times along the way. Whether someone plays music professionally, or just strums around the house, the guitar is, in my opinion, the perfect musical instrument. Anything I can do to help getting a guitar into a young person’s hands, I do it. So thanks to all who supported our efforts this past weekend. Okay, my phone is ringing. It’s Sammy, likely telling me I’m late for lobby call. Don’t want to keep the Red Rocker waiting. Much love … kc
