As of last week I’ve officially filmed 50 episodes of #ExpeditionX for @discovery, with more on the way. It has been a dream (or in some locations, a bit of an exciting real-life nightmare!) to explore the world and tell the stories of these mysteries that have a bit of truth, science, history, and lore all intertwined. I’ve seen and learned so much over these years. But, as you can see by the second slide, I apparently still haven’t learned that no matter what I plan for the day I *always* end up going into the deep water and should really wear my waders and not wellies out there in the swamps!

Juvenile American Alligator 🐊 This little one will, over the next decade or so, turn into the animal with one of the strongest bite forces in the world. More powerful than a lion, the only bites stronger are the alligator’s cousins, the Nile and Saltwater Crocodile. I ran into a few other nature lovers yesterday while out photographing these gators, and twice heard someone say in disbelief at their size “like living dinosaurs, right?” Though they may *look* like a living dinosaur, alligators have their own lineage and once lived alongside dinosaurs. But do you know what are living dinosaurs? Birds. So, next time you see a pigeon turn to a stranger next to you and shake your head in disbelief and say “like living dinosaurs, right?” 🦖🕊️
