Looking at extraordinary images like this inside the “Wolves: Photography by Ronan Donovan” exhibition, you might wonder… how did he get the shot?! 📸
While there were numerous factors at play, it was ultimately Donovan’s camera trap that captured this photo! He explains that “the goal of a camera trap is to give viewers an intimate look at the wildlife they couldn’t get any other way.”
Experience some of the incredible photographs Donovan captured using camera traps by visiting the @natgeomuseum and @wildlifeartjh exhibition “Wolves: Photography by Ronan Donovan” – open at the Museum until February 11, 2024!

The bonds between wolves sustains them through challenging hunts, territorial disputes with other packs, raising pups, and much more. Plus, it just feels good for them to be close and to be in relationship – releasing dopamine and other ‘feel good’ neurochemicals when they see each other or when they rub against one another. Here Mr. Blue (right) is greeted by his mate, the White Female, back in March of 2015 as they were courting each other. Eventually, they went on to form the Wapiti Lake Pack in the heart of Yellowstone National Park.

Did you know that a wolf’s howl can travel up to 10 miles over a vast landscape like Ellesmere Island? 🐺
As you’ll learn (and hear) while walking through the @NatGeoMuseum and @wildlifeartjh exhibition, “Wolves: Photography by Ronan Donovan”, wolves are highly social creatures and howling is one of their primary forms of communication!
A howl can have many meanings. For instance, a wolf may howl as a warning to a rival pack. It may also howl to share its location or to show affection to its fellow pack members!
With only ONE MONTH before this remarkable travelling exhibition leaves the High Desert Museum, now is the time to check out the “Wolves: Photography by Ronan Donovan”exhibition and learn more about the lesser-known lives of wild wolves. We hope to see you soon!

Over 500 wolves have been tracked using collars since their reintroduction to Yellowstone National Park in 1995 – a result of one of the most detailed long-term studies of wolves to date. Using these collars, researchers can study pack movements, size, composition, prey selection and pup survival.
Learn more about what it takes to track wild wolves while visiting the @NatGeoMuseum and @WildlifertJH exhibition Wolves: Photography by Ronan Donovan. Now open at the Museum until February 11!
