Todrick Hall Instagram - With all this Minaj/Meg beef swirling around the internet, I thought I’d just put a lighthearted video out there lol. I’ve always been a Nicki fan and a Disney fan so I thought, why not combine those two worlds and do some rap covers with a little Disney twist. I used to have a homemade rinky dink green screen studio in the garage of my old house and during the time I made this video I was putting out five videos every week. That was A LOT to keep up with, so my quality was starting to suffer, but on this particular day I was like…you know what, I’m gonna take my time with this. I called my girl Brittney at @royalentertainers and asked her for some costumes,l then I called up my boy @jojoguadz and asked him if he’d be my Mowgli and he was like “yes bitch!,” then I called up my girl @lipsticknick and said will you come beat my face for like 9 different looks and she as like “absolutely!” Now at this time I was dating @jessejamespattison and I was very uncomfortable with the idea of doing drag in front of my boyfriend. He wanted to watch me film this SO BADLY and I was like “You are forbidden from watching!” I wish I had the raw footage from this shoot because, I remember very vividly that he was trying crack the door open in the garage to watch me and I was like “Stop the track!” BAHAHA, I wasn’t having it, but he made me feel so comfortable and reminded me that me doing drag didn’t make me any less of a man, Nicole even put him in drag, we stayed up ALL NIGHT until like 9 am in the next day shooting this video, laughing, kiki-ing, it was one of favorite shoots I’ve ever done. *sighs, those were the good old days, and I’ll never forget that moment with some of my favorite people. 💕 Get your Toddy vinyls TODAY, $10 off! Todrick Hall Instagram - How many Beyonce songs do you count? I was inspired by a video I saw on youtube by “paint” to create a Beyonce medley mash up. I wanted to challenge myself to sing every song that had be released at that time in just 4 minutes, which is mine and Beyonce’s favorite number…I mean she did get married on my b’day 4/4. THEN, I decided to challenge myself to do complex choreo and try to film them all in one take, which is SO much more difficult than it looks when you watch these. Anyway, I recorded the songs and sent the mp3 to my best friend Sheena who was like “I dunno Todrick, it’s just too much…I can’t even tell what the songs are” We still laugh about that to this day…I legit almost didn’t put the video out because I thought the songs sounded to jumbled together, then I realized that Sheena was the same best friend who told me we didn’t have time to learn the McDonald’s drive through so I thought…maybe that’s the new testament. I have been a fan of Shoshana Bean since 2003, my senior year in high school I won the Wicked Lottery and got to sit FRONT ROW and experience the magic that is Madam Bean! We then became friends, she had no choice because I fully stalked her when I moved to LA, and I somehow convinced her to play with me several times. Spell Block Tango, Flying Monkey Airlines pt. 2 in Straight Outta Oz, she sings in Todrick Hall Musical’s CinderellaROCK (surprise) and this video my is my absolute favorite #Shodrick collab. She probably doesn’t know this, but her two most viewed videos on the internet are our collaborations, kinda cool! Being with her in the studio and hearing her sing some of my favorite Disney classics with an R&B twist was one of the highlights of my career and getting to GET OUR ENTIRE LIVES while sitting on chairs in front of a green screen was honestly bucket list level iconic for me. She’s such a natural performer and all the smiles and laughs you see in the video were 100% real…my gay little musical theatre nerd heart could hardly take it. Todrick Hall Instagram - Let’s get one thing straight, THIS WAS THE HARDEST VIDEO FOR ME TO SHOOT OUT OF ALL 730 VIDEOS ON MY FREAKIN CHANNEL! At the time I shot this video, I had (in my mind) mastered the art of the 4 videos and I wanted a challenge, so I decided to add props to the video. I had seen a bunch of evolution videos go viral, so I thought well why don’t I make an evolution video of the thing I love the most…Disney! To do these videos, I get 4 dancers, teach them all the choreo, assign the lyrics to each person and they all memorize it, then teach it back to me…we can plan all day long, but I never quite feel confident in these videos until I see the final edit. I’m legit always sweating and hoping I didn’t mess something up. I remember that there was one take that will go down in team toddy history lol So my friend and assistant at the time @sirwatkinssmith had to be my hand body double and pass me the props so it would look like my hands in the next frame, but the props came from different angles, so he had to crawl around the set and slide into position…The most difficult part about these videos is that they’re all one take, meaning that if you get through the first three minutes and make a mistake you have to start all the way over from the beginning…one take, I was having a PERFECT TAKE, we got all the way to the Mulan section and Watkins was SO stressed that he forgot to give me my drumsticks…we all started screaming and laughing because we were so delirious at that point and we talk about that all the time.
