Posted @withregram • “@natblacktheatre Earlier this month, NBT celebrated the 10 year anniversary of its groundbreaking national convening Catalyst. Conceived, launched and produced in 2013, Catalyst: Moving the Black Theatre Legacy Forward, brought together over 20 Black theatre institutions from across the country around the state of Black Theatre and the challenge of stabilizing its rich and unique legacy. This December 4 and 5, NBT partnered with the Ford Foundation(@fordfoundation) to build on the program with the second iteration: Catalyst: Seeding Black Theatre Permanence and the New Vanguard. This dynamic 2-day think tank assessed the current ecosystem and needs to foster permanence for Black Theatre and its practitioners. With leading voices from across the country, Catalyst 2.0 gathered 65 artists, producers, cultural strategists, marketers, theatermakers, and other stakeholders from around the U.S. for an intensive dive into the current cultural landscape and what a liberatory future could look like.
Catalyst is more than an event – it’s a dedication to amplifying the heart and soul of Black Theatre in all of its forms. Through this initiative we have the opportunity to explore the pivotal role we all must take in Black storytelling, to create and maintain epicenters of groundbreaking innovation. NBT and Ford Foundation deeply thank our advisory and planning committee and participants for their contributions to paving the way for future possibilities. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the rest of the field to share out the findings from the think tank and to create a public forum to bring more of the community together to seed permanence for Black Theatre and the New Vanguard. Get ready for a Liberatory chapter in Black Theatre!”
