I am proud to lead this international effort to end this violence, to demand a release of the hostages who have now suffered for 96 days, and to condemn all violations of international law in this conflict. Over 23,000–one out of every 100 people—in this total siege on Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Almost 1.9 million people—or 85 percent of the population—has been displaced, more than double the number displaced during the Nakba in 1948.
Despite calls for a cease-fire from around the world and calls for restraint, there has been no restraint. At least 40 people were killed in a blast just outside a hospital yesterday. We now know, according to reports, that the IDF has intentionally targeted civilian areas, that the safe zones in Gaza are not safe, and that Palestinians have nowhere to go to flee.
We also know, based on the word of Israeli officials, that this war would end if the United States stopped funding it.
We can hold two things in our heads at once: that the attacks by Hamas on October 7 were a war crime, and that Israel has responded by committing crimes against humanity – crimes that the United States, and much of the West continue to let happen, despite our professed support for international law.
I am honored to serve Minnesota’s Fifth District in Congress and I am excited for the opportunity to earn my constituents’ vote for a fourth term. Since being elected to Congress, I am proud of the work I have done to defend and advocate for women’s rights, address the climate crisis, center human rights in our foreign policy, and protect our democracy and voting rights. My team has helped thousands of constituents restore Social Security benefits, expedite passports, reunite families, restore health insurance, and so much more.
But the work is not over. All of the issues and rights my constituents and I care about most are under attack, and I will not back down in protecting them. I am an organizer who believes that organized people will always beat organized money, and I am excited to announce a talented and experienced team that will lead our organizing efforts this year.
