Maureen Dowd’s brilliant column this Christmas weekend is all about Charles Dickens. Love that she quoted my talented husband, who’s adapted Charles Dickens twice with his films Scrooged and Great Expectations. Dowd and Mitch are two of my writing heros! “For a couple of hours out of the whole year we are the people we always hoped we would be” – Frank Cross from Scrooged Merry Christmas!🎄❤️ #mitchglazer #maureendowd #charlesdickens #dickens #scrooged #greatexpectations #newyorktimes #rp @merleginsberg
It’s 2022, but not for women… Here in America, women are fighting for the right to control our own bodies, in other parts of the world, things are even more medieval… I am in awe of the brave women of Iran who have taken up protesting, risking their lives to amplify their collective voices after the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman killed by the morality police for not wearing her headscarf in the “right manner”, showing too much hair in public. Any society which fails to give equal rights to autonomy of the sexes is one in which a woman is nothing more than the property of a man. She has no more worth than a cow, or a family pet. I applaud and bow to every woman who has the conviction and strength to resist subjugation. And I thank every man who stands by their side in protest and solidarity. But WHERE is the mainstream media coverage of this movement? We need to stand behind each and every one of these brave women and the men joining in with support and amplify each and every voice. Stand with the women of Iran 🇮🇷 #rp @nytimes @paulinaporizkov #sisterhood #mahsaamini #iranprotests #istandwiththewomenofiran #equality #humanrights #womensrightsarehumanrights #opiran
The women of #iran are standing up with unspeakable strength against a regime that can no longer keep them quiet. Amplify their voices, share their message and stand with feminist movements in your own communities and countries because we’re all connected. Misogyny somewhere is misogyny everywhere. #enough #mahsaamini and all the other women who have been killed for rebelling against authoritarianism should still be with us ❤️ via Joyce Karam & @feministabulous #womensupportingwomen #womenempowerment #womensrights #womensrightsarehumanrights #iranprotests
Twitter, like any social-media platform, relies on talented people to work properly. Underestimating the value of those people would be a grave mistake, Charlie Warzel writes in @theatlantic Last night Elon Musk reportedly took control of Twitter, firing CEO Parag Agrawal and other executives, including Vijaya Gadde, the head of legal, policy, and trust. There is, both inside and outside the company, an apocalyptic feel to the ordeal, Warzel reports. People he spoke with were especially worried about losing site-reliability engineers and members of the internal trust-and-safety team, which handles content moderation. “These sites—no matter how talented the engineering organization—are often held together by a series of fragile, legacy systems, the precise functioning of which is only truly known to a few people,” Jason Goldman, a member of Twitter’s early team, a former board member, and the company’s former vice president of product, told Warzel. “Without even factoring in nefarious intent, it is easy to imagine scenarios where big mistakes happen because of the kind of disruption Twitter is about to endure … And it’s more likely to be from some small error that compounds than it is from the large decisions that often end up in the spotlight.” “Reactionary tech figures such as Musk like to imply that content-moderation teams act as a kind of thought police. But these teams largely work on protecting users’ privacy, complying with laws, or keeping the site from becoming overrun by the kind of spam that no human wants to encounter,’” Warzel continues at the link in our bio. “Musk very well could kill Twitter out of malice or hubris, or through calculated, boneheaded decisions. But one possibility seems more likely than others. If Twitter dies at the hands of this billionaire, the cause is likely to be tragically banal—neglect.” 🎨: Getty #rp #theatlantic #elonmusk #twitter
