Kimberley Crossman Instagram – We met with a Girls Empowerment Group and a Children’s Rights Club. Supported by @worldvisionnz these groups help educate children about their rights and empower them to speak up the changes they want to see in their community. Child marriage is a huge issue facing young women in these areas, so access to education and support for young women is paramount to try break this cycle.
A huge part of the work World Vision does is find solutions to keep girls in school. And so these empowerment groups also work to make sanitary pads for girls.
Seeing this group of girls feel so empowered and stoked to have a solution to being able to attend school, learn about their body and their rights was incredible. Honestly it inspired me, I think we aren’t period proud enough, I still go to the bathroom with a tampon clenched in my hand…
It’s amazing how with a bit of education and guidance that’s so many of these girls feel so proud and so empowered and are starting to design their own futures. It was so amazing to see it first-hand.
