If I see anyone walking their dog today… they better watch out! Treat your animals as if they are a loved elderly person: Keep indoors with cooling on Don’t go for walks when the sun is up Don’t travel, stay home No car rides Limit outside time to dawn and dusk Keep hydrated Keep calm and allow to rest Regularly keep an eye on them and watch for signs of discomfort or heat exhaustion. Seek vet assistance immediately if you are concerned. Feel free to add to this list.
Hope you and your loved ones are keeping cool tonight x

Letting our little girl hear the sounds of purring and snoring from her big brothers and sisters. So peaceful
What breed mix do you think Harry could be? To me, he seems like a mix of pharaoh hound, kelpie and bull breed. And 100% damn handsome too! What do you think?

A dog park/beach might actually be a lazy man’s choice… Language is one of the most advanced tools we have as humans. But our language is for humans, by humans, and from humans. Dogs have their own extraordinary and sophisticated language. If we choose to bring them into our lives, then it is our responsibility to learn and understand how they talk. It is very different to how we talk. I’m sitting opposite a dog park right now, and all I can hear is human voices yelling out english sentences, half heartedly directed at their dogs. Not one word is positive, they are all directive and demanding words. There is no attempt to understand what the dog is saying back. Naturally the dog is not listening, because the words mean nothing to him. – Try being silent and observe your dog. – Dog parks are not human social venues. – Don’t go to a park if you and your dog lose your relationship at the entry gate. – Move and act as your dog’s advocate at all times – Prevent incidents, rather than reacting to them! That may mean you don’t go to dog parks. Find a better way to entertain your best friend. The same dog park every day may actually be a bit lazy on your end.

PREPARING DOGS FOR A BABY Preparing a dog for a new baby arrival is critical! Now at 26 weeks pregnant, I am going to start taking you on my own journey each week as Harry, Chester and Cashew learn the joys of being big brothers. Today, Harry is learning to decipher toys. He is learning which toys are his, and which are not. This is started by his toy being the only toy in the space, where Harry is continually praised and acknowledged when he goes to it. Slowly a toy is added in, one by one – and Harry is only given praise and treats for picking up the pink echidna. I gently say ‘no’ if he goes to sniff the others and redirect him. For him this is a fun hide n seek game – choosing the one we want him to choose is actually part of the fun. The pink echidna is the ultimate prize. Watch how fast he learns.
Shooting this episode for @abctv on Compass was in equal parts a privilege and one of the most difficult discussions I’ve ever had. It’s called Goodbye, my dog, and is a story about the greatest love many of us will ever know. Out now on iview.
BFFs!
Years go by so fast!
Turns out dogs already know how to sit!! They’ve been doing it well before we even met them. When we capture a sit, we can reinforce it. Often dogs will learn to sit through their own auto-training if you get your timing right. Harry has learnt that good things happen when he sits. He gets focus from me, he gets mutual interaction, he gets to work, he gets praise, and sometimes he gets a treat. He is a working dog breed and so it is important I understand what gets him going. He probably does 40km a day with me, of which most is learning new skills, herding the goats, sniffing out balls, and socialising. He’s a true blue awesome dog! Notice he got a treat at the last sit in the video, and praise all the other times. Also notice I don’t say the word ‘yes’ until the end, as that lets him know he’s done it all and I’ve got a surprise for him. This can be mixed up to keep him enthused. Also watch his body language. He is cooperating. We are a team. There is no fear or submission. In this moment we are one. #workingdogs #dogtraining #respect #science
