Leanne Ford Instagram – These floors were a massive win for us in design land. I love to take advantage of my own projects as a place to try more unorthodox (at least here in America…) treatments of materials. You know, that gorgeous look of raw untouched wood floors before any sort of sealer has been applied? No orangey tint, no glossy finish — just beautiful raw wood. Well that has alway been the finished goal and while we managed to get close a few times we had never cracked the code like this before. Last spring on a trip with my good friend @hilaryrobertson to @3daysofdesign in Copenhagen I was on a mission to find out how and what they use “over there” to get the floors that I just don’t see over here. While talking to the team at @hans.wegner they introduced me to wood oil and wood soap. As an alternative to a poly or a sealer. I brought it home with me and started testing it on different wood species, like some kind of mad scientist in my basement. And it WORKED — it sealed the wood completely without altering the tone or finish of the wood in any way. I was thrilled, and now months into a heavy traffic commercial space I still am!
