Melissa King Instagram – Look Ma, I’m on CNN talking about the Lunar New Year! 🤯🧧🐉 My younger self would never have imagined sharing the foods and traditions of my culture on this level. As a Chinese American, I was the little kid embarrassed of my lunchbox of mom’s leftovers. I would celebrate all the festive moments of Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year on the weekend — wearing red, making and eating way too many dumplings, collecting red envelopes, visiting every relative I never knew I had, only to return to elementary school the next day without saying a damn word about it. My worlds felt so distinctly separate. I’m so honored to have this opportunity to speak about these incredible foods and traditions deeply rooted in an identity I’m so proud of today, and I hope you are of yours as well! Thank you @cnn and @thelauracoates for having me. I’m wishing you all a Happy New Year full of good health, happiness, prosperity, and good food! Melissa King Instagram – The Lunar New Year is tomorrow! Catch me on @cnn tonight 8:40/11:40pm ET discussing my favorite Lunar foods. Some Chinese traditions and superstitions to follow: 1. Make sure to wear something red for good luck. 2. Don’t wash or cut your hair the day of or you’ll wash away your luck. 3. Make dumplings with your family for wealth and prosperity (visit my link for my virtual class!). 4. If you’re married give away red envelopes to anyone younger. 🧧 (I’m not married but give to children) 5. Don’t clean your home or you’ll sweep away your luck. 6. Decorate your house with citrus with green leaves for prosperity and warding off bad energy. 7. Eat noodles for longevity! There are so many more traditions that I grew up following, but the most important is spending time sharing an insane amount of food with your family and loved ones. Happy new year to you!
