OK SO this is me ecstatically calling (on a cute but real ☎️ ) Senate Majority Leader @andreastewartcousins & Assembly Speaker @cheastie at @rothys last night (thanks for hosting @katebosworth & @justinlong 💗) advocating for New York’s Bigger, Better Bottle Bill. And yes I’m wearing mint green @rothys & yes I had late night pizza with my girl @egesas 🍕. ACTION: We have an opportunity to pass critical legislation in NY State that is quietly coming up for a vote on APRIL 25. It would keep plastic out of landfills, and give the first raise—in 40 years—to the bottlers who clean NYC’s streets. Some stats: 1.1 billion plastic bottles end up in NY landfills each year. If we can increase bottle return deposits to 10¢ (from the current 5¢), we could divert 773 million plastic bottles from the trash and dramatically increase recycling rates while supporting the Bottler workforce. Passing the Bottle Bill would make all plastic being recycled worth double the amount & in turn double the income of New York City’s Bottlers (aka Freelance Recyclers) who collect our city’s plastic bottles. While you may not think you’re familiar with these bottlers, you more than likely pass at least 2 each day on the streets of NYC. These freelance recyclers are responsible for 70% of the city’s recycling & highly deserve a more liveable wage! Most states have modern bottle bills, which offer double NY’s amount at 10¢ per bottle — a practice proven to increase recycling rates to 89%. Over 1.1 billion plastic bottles end up in NY landfills each year. Increasing bottle return deposits from 5 to 10¢ could divert 773 million plastic bottles from the trash, drastically increasing recycling rates and supporting the Bottler workforce (which hasn’t had a pay increase since 1984).
Union Proud. Union Strong. Couldn’t be prouder and in total awe of these humans !! @benjamintowill & @charlie_laytonuk What an honor to see them row to the finish line – winning their race – after 40 days on the ocean ! Raising money for @greenheartchs (link in bio) ! And inspiring us all ❤️ Equally incredible are @katedeez & @bloom.by.kelly – my fucking heroes !! Repost from @atlanticcampaigns • 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 The Dream Boats @dreamboats.us As they crossed the finish line, Charlie Layton and Ben Towill paused in a moment of quiet reflection as the enormous reality of what they had accomplished began to sink in. The connection between them was clear to see, their bond of friendship only strengthened by the hardships they overcame together out on the Atlantic. 🙌 The finish flares were sparked and burned bright as the sun started to dip below the horizon. 🔥 A fellow team, the Atlantic Guardsmen swam all the way out to the finish line to cheer this duo in their monumental finish! There wasn’t a dry eye as this duo stepped onto land today in Nelson’s Dockyard and hugged each other in a display of camaraderie that only those who have faced the worst and best of each other can. 🤝 Charlie said “To do it with my best friend, and one of the best people I’ve honestly ever met, it’s been really real”. These two intrepid men from the UK met in the restaurant industry in Charleston, USA. Both were inspired by friends who previously rowed, and they harboured ambitions for the row independently until they just happened to realise they both shared the same dream! 🤩 Today that dream was finally realised as they crossed the finish line at 17:11 local time in a time of 40 days, 8 hours and 59 minutes. They are the first pair of this year’s race to finish in the World’s Toughest Row! ☝️ They’ve faced capsize, a broken rudder that was fixed by just duct tape and even hallucinations of parking attendants and squirrels! 🐿️ Their charities are close to their hearts and hometown – Green Heart Project & 2041 Foundation. This duo have raised over €37,000! When we asked them what was next, they said “A year of giving back”. 💥
