Cocora valley was a dream come true ! Home to the wax palm trees, 🌴 the tallest in the world and also Colombia’s national tree ..
Rode the Willys 🚗, Trekked around the valley for hours, went deeper into the jungle, came across streams and hanging bridges , GOT LOST , took a U turn after 2 hours and finally found the las palmas 🌴(the palms) , met peruvian people 🇵🇪 and shared my travel stories of their country, sat on the steep trail catching my breath with my umbrella ☂️ and taking it all in… the beauty that sorrounded me all around thinking Who knows when will I be back here again ! So live in the moment, save it all in your mind and get back with some exciting stories… Because that’s what travel is all about.. your experiences , doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad, that makes up for all the incredible stories for future.

Throughout the 80s and 90s, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝟏𝟑 was considered to be one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world. It was run by violent drug trafficking organizations, who used the poor, sprawling hillside barrio as a transit route in and out of the city, and served as a stronghold for guerrillas, gangs, and paramilitaries.
During operation ORION in 2002 by the then president , the neighborhood’s residents were caught in the crossfires resulting in many injuries and death.
In 2011, the government installed a series of outdoor escalators that connected parts of the once chaotic and isolated hillside neighborhood to the city below.
Local artists came out to brighten up their neighborhood.
The result was the creation of one of the most colorful communes in Medellín filled with murals and graffitis. Many murals tell the story of 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝟏𝟑 , about operation ORION and their violent and sad past and also depicts a hopeful future ❤️🇨🇴
It still is a poor and not entirely safe neighborhood but the future looks brighter for what was once one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world.

Paloquemao market called as the “sweetest market on earth” by the proud locals and tour guides. The geographic position Colombia 🇨🇴 has due to its proximity to the equator and the Andes crossing the whole country creates the perfect conditions for fruits to develop unique flavors.
From fruits to vegetables to meats and to herbs for witchcraft (yes colombians still believe in witchcraft ) it had it all.
Maybe as an Indian it’s not new to me but what was interesting was to see locals doing their daily activities. Some showing off their produce excitedly and others are unbothered by the presence of tourists around them and are going on with their day.
Definitely an interesting place to interact with locals.
