#Artist2Artist is a monthly program featuring artists and creatives. This month’s program I interviewed @lama_jamous9 who holds a special place in my heart. She is a 9 year old journalist documenting her and her peoples experience in Gaza. She has been such an inspiration to many of us. I’m grateful she was able and willing to be interviewed.
I believe the artists will save us from ourselves. I believe our children are the most powerful messengers. Lama, we love you.
Thank you @lawrrah for translating during our interview.

I’m very selective with who I do any media with. But when the team @allthatweare_ asked me to connect with them my whole body said yes.
Episode is out now. Will share in my bio.

I believe our collective evolution is longing for a a culture of care. I know my soul is. Abolition will get us there. It has the potential to challenge the systems of punishment that we’ve all become complacent inside of.

Abolitionist Meditations Announcement 📣
I’ve launched a new meditation series co produced by @kingavriel
I’ll be sharing daily meditations as an offering for all of us in this time of grief and fear and resilience and hope.
You can find the series on ig, YouTube (@patrissemarie) and TikTok ( @abolitionist_ent )
“Abolitionist Meditations” is an innovative meditation series developed by Patrisse Cullors, artist/abolitionist and co produced by Avriel Epps artist/scholar. This thought-provoking series uniquely combines elements of imagination, healing, and transformation. Cullors and Epps utilize meditative practices as a vehicle to promote a deeper understanding of abolitionist principles, fostering a mental and emotional shift towards a world that is centered in care. The series emphasizes self-awareness and introspection as tools for not only personal growth, but also for societal change, underlining the power of individual and collective healing in the pursuit of transformation. It encourages participants to imagine a world free from violence and harm and to actively work towards a vision, integrating transformative ideals into their daily lives.

Grateful to have been asked by @southernguildgallery to support the opening ceremony for their LA launch. @andiledyalvane and the entire sound healers from South Africa reminded me that the diaspora is always asking for us to gather in ceremony. Our ancestors want us to call them in to play and heal.
I practice IFA, I pray to my ancestors, I believe in the power of African spirituality and the way it heals ALL of us. My work as an artist and abolitionist isn’t separate from spirit.
I am grateful that at 40 years old I get to keep digging into my legacy and my history. I may have been stolen from Africa but Africa will not be stolen from me.
Camagu! Aśe oooooooooooooo!

I’m so excited for you all the hear our next episode with my dear friend @osopepatrisse ! Courageous conversations are something she has inspired me to have and is what this podcast is largely about. As she says in this clip, our goal is to meet everyone where they are at and to create community in a digital landscape obsessed with ‘influence’. Can’t think of a better way to #ResettheAlgorithm!
This episode drops on all podcast platforms Tuesday, 9am PT… 🔗 in bio
In 2011, almost 13 years ago, I called ACLU SoCal into an epic collaboration after reading their 86 page complaint against the Los Angeles Sheriff’s department.
I toured my first performance art piece, Stained: An Intimate Portrayal of State Violence and called on my community to help me bring this work to life.
What would develop is @dignityandpowernow my first grassroots organization that used my families story to take on the largest jailer in the world. DPN is still going strong and has been one of the most powerful orgs in concert with so many orgs in LA county.
I am grateful ACLU asked me to speak about my art and activism work, and our long time collaboration to change and transform LA county.
@jessicaraefarris thank you for capturing this moment. ❤️🙏🏾

Thank you @makekeeee for this powerful conversation about the role of the artist for you new project @theartrebellion.
The entire interview is on @youtube and link is in my bio.
What we do with our trauma, and how we heel from it is vital as we rebuild a more equitable society.
I’m a non-binary Iranian immigrant, a brown person in Venture Capital and a founder in the beauty world in AMERICA; resilience is my middle name!! Every room I’ve entered has told me I am in the wrong place, but guess what?? I MADE it my place.
During this conversation, I told Patrisse that after years of therapy and work, I now view my trauma as a superpower. Something that gives me a leg up in these spaces!
Now as a society, we have to look to the collective trauma we are experiencing and work together to make it our collective superpower. Take this shit we’ve had to endure because of the pale-stale-males in leadership and build a world that takes account of our trauma and lived experiences to create a new reality! Let’s get this shit cleaned up!!
Thanks again everyone for tuning into the 3rd #Artist2Artist talk. This one is deeply healing, revelatory and engaging. I’m a big fan of @vanessalgerman work and life. She holds answers and being in a way that feels really important during this time.
