I first met the incredibly talented Dar Gai at IFFK 2017 where she was showcasing her film Teen aur Aadha. Since then, I have admired her unique vision and her compassionate, collaborative approach to the creative process. Very grateful that I finally got to work with Dar and her wonderful team for this fun ad for Bumble 🐝

2023 has been a year of extremes. As difficult as this year has been personally, it has also been a milestone year in my professional journey… This year, I had the privilege of sharing my work in three languages via three characters I have most enjoyed playing: Reshma, Nivi and Devi — women whose backgrounds, life worlds and personas are as different from each other as an actor could wish for.
My deepest gratitude to their creators — Rahul Chittella & Arpita Mehta (Gulmohar); Reshma Ghatala, Swathi Raghuraaman & Vinithra Madhavan Menon (Sweet Kaaram Coffee); and Shalini Ushadevi (Ennennum).
Thank you for entrusting me with the task of bringing these intriguing women to life.
Thank you for the opportunity to connect with viewers across the globe who identified with the dreams, conflicts and journeys of these complex characters.
And to the audiences — thank you for engaging with these varied stories. You help us push the limits of what is possible.

Ennennum is my fourth film to have been showcased at IFFK — and the one I am most proud of. In the four years I journeyed with this film — from audition to premiere — it served as a beacon of hope, reminding me of what is possible when a small team of committed individuals give their best to realise a creator’s vision.
Ennennum would not have materialised if not for the one-woman army behind it: writer, director, producer and production designer — Shalini Ushadevi. Despite multiple obstacles and extended delays, Shalini resolutely built (and rebuilt) the project ground up, and assembled an incredible team of collaborators.
The two weeks we spent shooting the film in January this year were the happiest I have ever been on a set. We had a tight schedule and several constraints, but there was a sense of conviction and camaraderie that sustained us. Devi was a challenging character to play — the kind that comes along only once in a while. I’m fortunate that I had these lovely, talented people around to help bring her to life, and am grateful that we all got to hang out again for a week, sharing Ennennum with family, friends, and the discerning audience at IFFK.
Thank you for this most rewarding experience, Shalu.
And a special shout out to @pikkoo for being the best kind of co-actor: gifted, generous and kind.
Here’s hoping the film finds more of its people as it continues its journey in the new year 💫
