Born in 1951, Lou Sullivan moved to San Francisco in the 70s, determined to live his life authentically as a man. 💪 In 1980, he underwent top surgery, a pivotal step towards embracing his true self.

However, around the same time, Lou faced the harsh reality of the HIV epidemic, a threat looming over the LGBTQ+ community. In 1986, after his lower surgery, Lou received a diagnosis that shook the foundations of his world. 🌎 Despite the challenges, Lou remained resilient.

In his poignant diary entry, Lou defiantly declared, “I took a certain pleasure in informing the gender clinic that even though their program told me I could not live as a Gay man, it looks like I’m going to die like one.” 📖❤️

Lou Sullivan’s story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Today, we honour his memory, acknowledging the impact he made in breaking down barriers and advocating for the right to live as one’s true self. 🙏🏳️‍⚧️

As a trustee I have always acted to the best of my ability to solve challenges within the charity, but I no longer feel I have the strength or energy to continue that work.

I’ll always be proud to be a co-founder of Trans Pride Brighton & Hove and to have documented Trans Pride for the past decade.

I balled my eyes out watching this season, because the trans storylines were created by trans consultants, a trans writer and trans actors — and mostly because Shay (who was consulting alongside me) died by suicide. The 5th episode, written by trans icon @krishnaistha was dedicated to Shay.

A little Easter egg in the series is this very brief look at Cal’s tablet which has real life trans peeps, including the writer, @cjthesane @rentrntrnt, @xzandj and myself.

Hope you enjoy the show, especially knowing the lengths they went through to make each storyline and character real. It’s amazing to see couples like my partner @uglastefania and I, and so many others, represented on a show like this, which the actors breathed so much depth, joy and humour into.

2️⃣ Join Protests: Stand in solidarity at rallies and protests. Make your voice heard and show your support for trans rights visibly and actively.

3️⃣ Respect Pronouns: It's simple yet so powerful. Use the correct pronouns — it's a basic sign of respect and recognition of a person's identity.

4️⃣ Write to Your MP: Ask them about their stance on trans rights. Urge them to support legislation that protects and uplifts the trans community.

I wasn’t blessed with big bushy eyebrows, but this allowed me to achieve something that gives me euphoria about the way I look. And I know, for many trans people, little things like this can make such a difference.

Before coming out, I started to feel the pressure to conform to stereotypes about how girls are supposed to dress and behave. So, at the age of 11, I signed up for a finishing-school type class, which taught tweens and teens how to preen and prettify our faces.

For my eyebrows specifically, the teacher used me as the example model – showing the girls the best tweezers, where to pluck and how much to remove. This gave me fashionably thin brows, very femme.

Picture this: a trans-masc individual (they/them pronouns) enjoying a swim with their 11-year-old adopted child. After leaving the pool, the child, inspired by the lighting and their parent’s radiant expression, recognized the potential for “gender euphoria” and eagerly snapped a photo to celebrate and share the moment.
