La Pou, smoked aubergine with cream cheese, honey and crushed nuts, a twist on tapas. Perfect Scallops at Fragata, with a great terrace to watch the world go by. La Cocina one of the best restaurants in town, make sure you book. This perfectly preserved piece of ancient Roman history is a wonderful example of the Romans understanding of engineering and their incredible capabilities in building. This aqueduct supplied fresh, clean water for baths, fountains, and drinking water. Hugh Wallace Instagram - I popped into Straffan Antiques, a family run business with over three decades of experience, established in 1988 by John and Marie Ryan. Marie’s Antiques & Pianos traded for 16 years in the centre of Clane, Co. Kildare. They then moved to the historic farm buildings of Barberstown House in Straffan. Since the move, Straffan Design and the Victorian Tea Rooms have also been established. The businesses have evolved into four main areas: antiques, pianos, design (fashion, home and giftware) and the tea rooms, each run by members of the Ryan family. Hugh Wallace Instagram - I had a fantastic day exploring @belvederehousegardensandpark The story behind the jealous wall; Robert Rochfort, the first Earl of Belvedere, became known as the Wicked Earl. His brother George built nearby Tudenham House (then called Rochfort House), but its back was facing Belvedere. This infuriated the Earl, who promptly built this structure to block his view. Designed by Thomas Wright to look like a ruin, after nearly 300 years it is still standing. When a 10m section collapsed in 1991 the wall was found to have shallow foundations, so work was done to strengthen and protect it. Designers Sean O’Malley and Oisín Griffin’s garden is designed to represent the journey from homelessness and sleeping rough to living in a safe and secure home. Reflective of the physical and emotional journey undertaken by the Trust’s clients, the garden provides a respite from the pressures of homelessness. A series of pathways of varying heights transects the garden and suggests a staggered journey punctuated by opportunities to seek support. A constrained use of colour defines the textured planting at different levels, which is complemented by the stillness of the timber benches. Carved from wind-blown silver fir, they provide places for contemplation and conversation while overlooking the calming water and considering one’s pathway through life. #gardendesign #bloom

When I asked Rachel to tell me about her subject matter she responded ‘Preferring to abandon recognisable subject matter for a world of abstraction. My work is inspired not by who, but by what, focusing on the paint itself as the subject, obsessed by colour and texture. Designers Sean O’Malley and Oisín Griffin’s garden is designed to represent the journey from homelessness and sleeping rough to living in a safe and secure home. Reflective of the physical and emotional journey undertaken by the Trust’s clients, the garden provides a respite from the pressures of homelessness. A series of pathways of varying heights transects the garden and suggests a staggered journey punctuated by opportunities to seek support. When I asked Rachel to tell me about her subject matter she responded ‘Preferring to abandon recognisable subject matter for a world of abstraction. My work is inspired not by who, but by what, focusing on the paint itself as the subject, obsessed by colour and texture.
