Plus motherhood looked… awful. What they don’t tell us is that a degree will not fix emotional dysregulation, selfish women do not bring all the boys to the yard, the dating pool is dwindling as we focus on our career’s (and so are our eggs), IVF is VERY expensive and if we don’t snap out of our egocentric, consumeristic conditioning soon enough, we may wake up one day and it’s going to be too late.💩 (AND if motherhood is really as awful as it’s portrayed on TV no one would do it - but they do, so there’s gotta be more to it… perhaps even a biological pull towards a purpose in life other than making money and looking good - that might even fulfill us🤔) Is it just me, or are modern, western women being steered in every direction except motherhood? Considering rising depression rates, are we going in the right direction? Do you think it’s easier to control depressed, angry and alone people or fulfilled stable and supported ones? Not drinking is boring I need a drink to loosen up I need a drink to wind down I NEED a drink Any of this sound familiar? 🙋🏾‍♀️ I never really thought I had a problem with alcohol. I could always take a break when I was focusing on my health or preparing for a shoot or production. And I only drank socially, never by myself – so I was ok right? Wrong. I decided to quit all together in the fall of 2022 for several reasons. One being that It’s one of the leading causes of preventable death (yet it was considered essential during a health crisis?🧐) And then I started noticing how often people had a drink in their hands on TV, how often it’s advertised… let’s just say I’ve been down a rabbit hole. Aside from that all, I wanted to see what I was really capable of, and that meant I needed to stop blowing all my progress for a night out on the weekend - followed by a bout of depression that only slowly wore off through-out the week with the added “benefit” of raising my cortisol levels 😓 When I started writing and really opening up my thoughts around drugs and alcohol, I realized just how deep that programming ran. How instantaneous the desire popped up when I would so much as look at a patio in the summertime. How boring and bleak I thought my future looked without it🥱 I was wrong again🥹 I feel like for the first time in my adult life, I’m really living. I had to re-learn how to do some things, and address some of the pain and anxiety that I didn’t even realize was hiding behind my lack of sobriety. Latonya Williams Instagram - 🎀Ivaya Lorelli Smith🎀 At 41 weeks pregnant and 2 days, on September 11th, our little 8.1 lb baby girl was born - she waited for her Daddy’s birthday 💝 We were doing our best the day before to max out my oxytocin and put me into labour - turns out a bowl of pho did the trick 🍜 It was a wild ride overnight - I don’t know if there’s anything that could have prepared us for how intense this experience was going to be 🤯 But my midwife knew exactly what to do (even when things went a little sideways after her birth) and my man quickly figured out how to be all the support I needed to have the unmedicated birth I had planned. And now all is well. We are resting and healing and snuggling. I had my mom here nursing me back to strength while I nursed my new baby girl and she just left me with a fridge and two freezers full of food 🥰. I am so grateful. How could the science be so vastly different? Well, it’s not. Dr. Henry was prudent enough to admit during a press conference that both science and politics have attributed to her decision. In order to tip the scales in the complete opposite direction from the other provinces, politics must have weighed heavily. Should unelected officials be allowed to make political decisions in a democratic nation? Are we trusting science? Or is it political science? The only way to prove that we truly are trusting science would be to now trust the ubiquitous amount of science and expert opinion that has emerged revealing that the mandates do nothing to protect us. If we don’t, we prove this was never about safety, but perceived safety. In stripping citizens of their rights in the name of perceived safety, we are no better than our forefathers who forced Indigenous people into residential schools, segregated Black people from society and locked up Japanese people in internment camps. All carefully orchestrated by our government under the guise of perceived safety. We all recently pledged to never again allow such brutal injustices to befall our nation. I had to ask myself—why? What was I so afraid of? Turns out, I was really attached to the way I’d defined myself—by what I did, how I did it, and when. I was afraid of losing myself and everything I’d worked so hard for. Processing those fears wasn’t easy, but with the right tools and an amazing community, I started to let go of those old definitions. And now that she’s here… I’ve learned that holding onto those definitions—especially the how and when of life before her—only creates frustration. That frustration can put distance between us and our babies. But when we let go, we find stability. We stop judging, stop comparing, and start showing up—fully present. That presence helps us notice the little cues our babies give us, anticipate their needs, and build a connection that goes beyond words. That connection all started with letting go. One being that It’s one of the leading causes of preventable death (yet it was considered essential during a health crisis?🧐) And then I started noticing how often people had a drink in their hands on TV, how often it’s advertised… let’s just say I’ve been down a rabbit hole. Aside from that all, I wanted to see what I was really capable of, and that meant I needed to stop blowing all my progress for a night out on the weekend - followed by a bout of depression that only slowly wore off through-out the week with the added “benefit” of raising my cortisol levels 😓 When I started writing and really opening up my thoughts around drugs and alcohol, I realized just how deep that programming ran. How instantaneous the desire popped up when I would so much as look at a patio in the summertime. How boring and bleak I thought my future looked without it🥱 I was wrong again🥹 I feel like for the first time in my adult life, I’m really living. I had to re-learn how to do some things, and address some of the pain and anxiety that I didn’t even realize was hiding behind my lack of sobriety. Likes : 3343Latonya Williams - 3K Likes - 🎀Ivaya Lorelli Smith🎀 At 41 weeks pregnant and 2 days, on September 11th, our little 8.1 lb baby girl was born - she waited for her Daddy’s birthday 💝 We were doing our best the day before to max out my oxytocin and put me into labour - turns out a bowl of pho did the trick 🍜 It was a wild ride overnight - I don’t know if there’s anything that could have prepared us for how intense this experience was going to be 🤯 But my midwife knew exactly what to do (even when things went a little sideways after her birth) and my man quickly figured out how to be all the support I needed to have the unmedicated birth I had planned. And now all is well. We are resting and healing and snuggling. I had my mom here nursing me back to strength while I nursed my new baby girl and she just left me with a fridge and two freezers full of food 🥰. I am so grateful. I had to ask myself—why? What was I so afraid of? Turns out, I was really attached to the way I’d defined myself—by what I did, how I did it, and when. I was afraid of losing myself and everything I’d worked so hard for. Processing those fears wasn’t easy, but with the right tools and an amazing community, I started to let go of those old definitions. And now that she’s here… I’ve learned that holding onto those definitions—especially the how and when of life before her—only creates frustration. That frustration can put distance between us and our babies. But when we let go, we find stability. We stop judging, stop comparing, and start showing up—fully present. I had to ask myself—why? What was I so afraid of? Turns out, I was really attached to the way I’d defined myself—by what I did, how I did it, and when. I was afraid of losing myself and everything I’d worked so hard for. Processing those fears wasn’t easy, but with the right tools and an amazing community, I started to let go of those old definitions. And now that she’s here… I’ve learned that holding onto those definitions—especially the how and when of life before her—only creates frustration.
