Caption : The thoughts coming through after reading this… The necessity to never forget. We are not alone. We are never alone. And so many of us are apart that if even just a few come together that bit of the world can be changed. Powerfully changed. And the more of us who gather multiply that change. There is no gathering too small. There is no ripple too gentle. Look within and know the power you hold, and that with another, and another, and another… the whole becomes so much greater than the sum of its incredible parts. I saw this demonstrated this week. My heart filled to bursting. My mind swam oceans. My spirit is flying. I’ll share more about it soon. 🙏🤍 In the meantime many thanks to the magical @urbanjukejoint9 — one of my treasured, early soul expanders — for posting this simple but profound prompt. Image description: White background. Black handwritten lettering reads — “But what can I do, I am just one person” said 7 billion people..”

Caption : Happy Naw-Rúz 🤍🎉 Today we celebrate the beginning of a new year on the Bahá’í calendar, following our month of fasting. Last year it was me, a string of lights, and a little lettuce plant I was growing in my apartment. This year I’m grateful to be with my family — especially after a year of such loss and turmoil for almost everyone on Earth. Though we’re all in different time zones, with different faiths, backgrounds, beliefs, strengths and weaknesses, we’re sharing the human experience. No matter how hard we fight it, we are one human family, inextricably linked. I believe that to the depths of my soul. So in that spirit I pray, though it may not be everyone’s new year, that the spirit of this new year for us brings some light to all. So from my family… to my family 🌍 🌎 🌏 (yep, you too), Happy New Year. May it bring you joy and love, healing and growth. May it bring more learning and understanding, justice and safety and peace. May we all be renewed. With love, Parisa [Image Description: My family — brother, mom, sister-in-love and niece — and me posing in my parents’ kitchen, wearing T-shirts with messages like “World Citizen” and “The earth is one country and mankind its citizens.” My purple T-shirt has a nine-pointed star made of interlocked hands with different shades of skin. My squishy 13 month old niece is wearing a green world citizen T-shirt and smiling with her arms out.]

Caption : Oh my goodness I’m so grateful! The last week and a half since my birthday (22 July) has been so rich. I spent the day itself driving through the desert on a solo cross country journey. This was my second birthday in a row in the desert, a place this water baby has come to appreciate so deeply. Following the example of friends who claim an entire month to celebrate their own births I decided to just stay open, navigating the habitual awkwardness I’ve had around celebrating mine at all. I decided to receive, to associate this time with an extra openness to joy and discovery — and what do you know, they showed up! 🤩 This is me in hot hot hot Nevada, in front of the ice-cold, beautiful Colorado river, with Arizona on the other side. I soooo recommend driving across a country — especially if you could use a reminder of the vastness of this planet, that in Truth we belong to all of it and that it belongs to all of us. I didn’t forget the lines that have been drawn, or the mindfulness required to navigate our many misunderstandings and shortcomings. I just got a chance to remember the bigger stuff more. What a blessing!!! Many thanks to all who sent messages last week. I wish I could have responded to them all individually. Please know how much they and you have been appreciated. I’m learning it’s always a good time to receive. It’s always the right time to feel joy. Nature is the definition of generosity and a reminder of our place in existence. There’s beauty even in dry expanses. Spirit is the ever-present, constant companion. It’s possible to not only step into the future with open arms, but also to gain new understandings of the past with an open heart. And of course, that magic abounds. Here’s to another year of life! Thank you for being a part of mine! Image description: A selfie of me smiling, curly brown hair out and blowing in the breeze, wearing a black halter top with white polka dots. Behind me, the green-blue Colorado River rippling, a bit of green foliage, white sand and a blue sky with whisky white clouds.

Caption : Underrated mental health tool and cognitive booster: PLAY I’m serious! Google “science of play” and you’ll find references to studies proving all these amazing benefits that I inconveniently and constantly forget about! 🤡🎉 I’m working (hehe) on bringing more play into my life — whether in my occupation or in my free time. I know this might sound odd in the face of stereotypes about our work, but for a lot of artists (and scientists, and teachers, and healers, and entrepreneurs and and and), real free time can feel scarce. The side gigs a lot of us have are no joke (😜), but the fact that we’re always ‘on’, absorbing, contemplating, reassessing, optimizing, conceptualizing, balancing creation with paying the bills — even working with our literal dreams to see what they have to tell us — can mean we miss opportunities to be UN-intentional, silly, wild, naughty, messy and in the moment. Sharing this moment when I just let myself enjoy the absurdity of life. Because I’m writing about it I’m now remembering the beautiful bowling ball I recently received and how I need to schedule time to go bowl with it because it’s so much fun. 🎳💫 In the meantime I’m going to figure out how to feel playful while prepping a chicken for dinner…. Ok someone’s getting on my table tonight in a bikini and it’s not gonna be me!👙🍗 I’m feeling it! 🥳 My unsolicited advice for today: GO PLAY! Even if it’s the smallest thing! Even if it’s at work! Even if it’s doing something weird with a chicken… um……. Have fun! 🥳 XOXO, P. Image description: Slide 1: Close up of me, laughing big time toward camera. I have light brown skin, dark brown eyes and dark brown curly hair. I’m wearing my favorite white t shirt that is at this point basically Swiss cheese. Slide 2: A seasoned, roasted spatchcock chicken in a roasting pan. The chicken is wearing a bikini made of fresh cilantro. There’s another cilantro bikini underneath it but after baking it looked more like what a bikini might be covering so I refreshed it. 😜

Caption : The way I sobbed watching this… 🙏♥️ I remember when I was a little girl and the Essence By Mail catalog used to come to our house. We couldn’t afford to order anything from it, still I drank in the images, not knowing yet how thirsty I was for them. I didn’t know the ins and outs of racism yet but I knew that seeing people that looked like me being centered so lovingly was not the norm. Around that time I would memorize the entire Little Mermaid movie, recite it on the phone with my dear friend (heyyy Gemma 💕) as we synched up our VHS tapes after school. So many of us related to the feeling of being set apart and wishing to be valued, validated, able to traverse worlds and belong. Around this time too I was spending my nights memorizing R&B songs that I could only find on AM radio (big up Star16 1590 and 1380 and 1150 oh my God the memories). FM did not play R&B and hip hop where I lived in Florida until I was in 8th grade and STILL only a little. I was an adult working model living in NY before I saw an interracial family in a national ad. I still remember the glee, like these girls: I SEE ME THERE! Sometimes I forget what a big deal it is. I go about my life as these gleeful moments of widening representation become a part of what feels normal to me, because it IS normal, it’s just not common. I’m so grateful for this reminder. Being seen and valued, centered and loved feeds the spirit. So many of us have rarely — or never — had that. And so many of us have had it so much it feels normal. Then when someone else gets it we feel deprived… Let’s *normalize* full representation of our human family. Let’s normalize celebrating when missing pieces start falling into place. Let’s normalize seeing wins like this as wins for EVERYONE — because they are. “She’s Black!” And now we’re all a little closer to whole. 🧜🏾‍♀️✨ Repost from @questlove • Representation Matters People. #Repost @okayafrica ・・・ 🧜‍♀️ A core memory moment for the young ones. 🪄 But why so many dislikes on Youtube? 🙇🏽‍♀️ #littlemermaid 🎥: Freeda_en (TikTok) VIDEO DESCRIPTION: Home videos of Black girls reacting to the new Little Mermaid trailer.

Caption : Anyone who knows me well knows my journey with COVID, how it’s impacted my family and other loved ones. I felt moved to share some thoughts here [[THIS IS A SHORT CLIP — SORTING OUT HOW TO POST THE FULL VERSION HERE]] after some recent experiences. I know that for many, COVID has felt like a distant annoyance. I’m one of the folks for whom it has hit close to home, in big ways, repeatedly. I’ve felt so much despair and hopelessness about all the fighting, the denial, the ignorance, the negligence toward disabled and other so-called ‘high risk’ folks (I say so-called because some folks seemingly aren’t high risk and yet have devastating or life-ending COVID infections). And I’ve felt so dismayed over the lack of readily-available, trustworthy information on COVID and long-COVID — from how different variants behave to how we can keep ourselves and each other safe. I’ve watched as we’ve been heavily self-focused when most of the best mitigation relies on community or interventions that rely on decisions made by groups. We attack each other about things that if discussed respectfully we wouldn’t even need as much (for example how proper ventilation could potentially mean drastically less if not zero need for masking). I’m feeling inspired by those who are gathering strength and speaking up for community in a time when institutions that should are not. As I say in this video (lol at the end if anyone watches that long) I may close the comments and I may delete this. I don’t have the time, energy or patience to deal with arguments in the comments. If there’s nothing here for you please carry on. Link to the article that moved me to do this in my bio. ♥️ Video description: Me, close up. My hair is out and curly, I’m wearing a black sweatshirt with green parachute pants peeking out at the bottom of frame. I’m sitting on a floor, leaning back on a gray brick wall.

Caption : It’s such an honor to be the subject of a piece of art. Thank you @maas.art for this beautiful drawing and for seeing me with such kindness and generosity. 🙏🤍 Image description: A close-up pencil drawing of me. My hair is out and I’m looking directly at the viewer. Repost from @maas.art • Here’s my new drawing of @parisafitzhenley. A supremely beautiful human, Parisa is always a joy to draw… and that HAIR. Omg. Wanted to make this about her beautiful features but once again got caught up in her hair. I would say I spent 2/3 of the time on this piece drawing her hair but “erasing” would be more appropriate because the technique is: Lay down value, blend, erase. Lay down more value, blend, erase. And repeat. And repeat. It becomes this sort of zen movement that is very enjoyable but also somewhat makes you go cross eyed at times! Well worth it though, to try to capture this wonderful lady. I did this drawing in graphite and white charcoal on toned strathmore paper. With that in mind I wanted to share a book that’s been powerful for me in many ways, a book I’ve revisited and will continue to revisit time and again for its wisdom, encouragement and good company — The Practice of Groundedness: A Transformative Path to Success That Feeds—Not Crushes—Your Soul, by @bradstulberg. This book covers a wide range of challenges and tools from the perspective of someone who knows about success inside and out. He shares as both a coach of high-achieving folks in several disciplines, and from a vulnerable personal perspective as a high-achiever himself who’s lived through the pitfalls of material success and courageously opens up about the process. He shares grounded ways to balance the material, emotional, mental, social and spiritual aspects of life to have a fuller, healthier life in all ways. Whether you’re trying to build a career, dismantle a system, build a family, or generally recover from life’s life-ing there are lessons here that apply. And whether it’s this book or another resource (please feel free to share those you love in the comments) I hope you’re finding ways to not just grind, hustle, and plow through challenges, but to grow, give yourself grace, and thrive. Wishing you all the very best! 📚 ✨ Video description: Me to camera, sitting in front of a window. I have medium brown skin, and dark brown eyes and hair. My hair is pulled into a bun. I’m wearing a tank top and dangling earrings. During the video I raise my phone and show the cover of the book mentioned above which is dark blue and includes a simple snowy mountain top and sun above it. #Bookstagram #Mindfulness #MentalHealth #Happiness

Join me and @rainnwilson, as well as supporters and partners from around the world THIS SATURDAY, September 10th! I love the work @themonafoundation does and am so excited for others to get to know it too. Soooo amazing what folks getting together to uplift and empower each other can do. I LOVE that Mona’s endeavors consciously aim to honor and support the gifts each community already has, rather than see themselves as saviors. And I love the trust they’ve earned over the years with people who know that their support of Mona will do real, meaningful, powerful things with young folks and their families and communities. Come come come! 🎉 #Education #Gala #MonaFoundation Video description: A close shot of me, big curly brown hair, brown skin. I’m wearing a white T-shirt with the sun behind me. Caption : Prayers up please for the journey of this soul and the soothing of the hearts of his loved ones. I met Craig muMs Grant @sirmumsila on the set of Luke Cage. I was somewhat just getting started and he was coming from a place of deep and varied experience. One of the big gifts of my experience on the show was the connection we had. He was so warm and gentle, curious and humble. I felt safe and comfortable and encouraged with him. We kept in touch a little after my time there and I’d have been so happy to see him anywhere again. I’m grateful for the memory he left with me of a beautiful man with beautiful talent and a beautiful heart. Praying that the next stage for him is one filled with light and love and the return of all the good things he gave in this life, and then some. RIP 🤍 I hate this…. [Image Description: a closeup of Craig, a man with dark brown skin and close cropped hair, a bit of salt and pepper in his short goatee, wearing a red T-shirt. I’ve said it before, I’d take back the worst day if that’s all I could get, and I’d live in that day smiling to myself, knowing it was worth everything. More than everything. But I can’t really remember the worst days anymore. My heart and mind are filled with the good and sweet and beautiful. I hope that’s what it’s like where you are too. I love you. I hope you’re still dancing.

Caption : UPDATE 🗣️ Just finished the event and will post the recording when available. In the meantime check out the link in my bio for more info on how to learn more and support! Kicking off @tahirihjustice Bighearted Campaign to support immigrant women and children fleeing violence. Great organization with great opportunities to support with your friends and colleagues. Come see what Tahirih does, learn about it’s incredible namesake — a 19th century woman in Persia (now Iran) who was the first known woman to publicly tear off her veil, and who was eventually killed for her beliefs. Her last reported words were “You can kill me as soon as you like, but you will never stop the emancipation of women.” We see this in Iran and all over the world. Here’s an opportunity to help in a solid way. Check it out. Caption : I was surprised at how much this thread resonated with folks. The same for the video clip and post I shared yesterday (full length will be coming after this weekend). The last 24 hours I’ve had people reach out to me privately as well as publicly with harrowing experiences — and I thought I already knew a lot of folks heavily impacted by COVID! 😰 PLEASE if you are in a position of responsibility or influence, whether in a professional, community, social justice, political, religious, spiritual, educational or healthcare facility, or in hosting private events — PLEASE update your communications OR stand by your word. Perhaps the majority of folks don’t mind either way, but the minority matters right?? And many have been so broken down by all this we will just not say anything anymore and/or avoid you altogether. Not going to discuss whether or not you should have COVID mitigation on this post. But advertising a safer place then not ensuring it is not just a bad look, it’s dangerous. Your immune-compromised, disabled, elderly, and generally COVID-cautious friends deserve better. —— Image description in comments.

Caption : Thinking so much about the intersection of racism and migration today as we witness their complexities in the face of war. I’m now feeling even more grateful to take part in this IG Live with @tahirihjustice — a secular organization based on Baha’i principles, dedicated to supporting immigrant women and girls fleeing gender-based violence. They do this with inclusivity around gender expression and identity, and by advocating “both for individual immigrant survivors and to change the systems that are complicit in the conditions of their oppression.” Their certainty that anti-racism is integral to this work is so powerful and gives me so much hope. This also happens to be during the yearly celebratory period Bahá’ís call Ayyam-i-Ha, when we give gifts, and enjoy fellowship and acts of charity and service. To honor that Jennifer and I will be making cookies together on the live. So please join us to listen, to ask questions, make or decorate your own cookies, or pray for two people who don’t do a lot of lives whose attempt at baking for one could provide some comic relief. 🤓🍪🔥🙏 We look forward to sharing it all with you. Love, Parisa Image description: A screenshot of a Twitter post from @tahirihjustice. The photo is a closeup of me, a woman with medium brown skin and dark brown eyes and hair, wearing green. I’m looking into camera. Text: “We hope you will tune into our Instagram Live with actress @ParisaFH and Tahirih staff member Jennifer Jackson for a special discussion about Black history, Black Baháʼís, and Tahirih’s commitment to anti-racism. #BlackHistoryMonth  Monday, February 28, 12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT”

Thanks to all who have loved me, wished me well, encouraged me, taught me, partnered with me, inspired me. Thanks for the challenges, heartbreaks, and humbling experiences. Thanks for all the joy. The last year was filled with gifts, some strangely wrapped, some on silver platters. Thanks to all those who remind me to see and count and be grateful for them all. Wishing us all so much love. 🙏🤍✨ Image Description: Me (very tiny in the shot) sitting on a concrete block on the far left of a panoramic shot of desert, with hills in the background and a blue morning sky above. Caption : My heart aches for families in Florida & nationwide facing being torn apart, becoming refugees in their own country because they have a child whose gender doesn’t conform to what they were assigned at birth. The ache spreads as I know that the laws causing this will continue to expand & make the lives of trans adults even more of a living hell. There are people I love living in terror, not knowing where they’ll live, where they can safely travel, how they’ll make a living — while a relatively small group of people legislates against them & a large number of the rest of us shrug or say they deserve it. 💔 I believe there’s more to gender than many of us know or allow for. I believe the masculine and feminine aspects of us are spiritual in origin, thus multifaceted. Sex in the biological sense is also multifaceted. I don’t believe being in the majority means we are right or good or ‘normal’. In fact I believe it often corrupts, as all kinds of power can,& that if we find ourselves to be in a majority anywhere it’s our responsibility to step into a mode of care & concern for the voices & values of the few. I believe it’s possible to do this & still maintain a healthy sense of self. I believe fighting over pieces of a societal pie that nourishes almost no one is a losing game. Not realizing there’s a feast of life that we can only harvest together is starving us all. We need each other. We especially need the voices & beingness of those we are only just starting to hear. Intolerance & bigotry, fear of the other & desire to crush what we don’t understand have been too loud, too long. If you disagree w/me I hope you won’t also unfollow. But know that if you comment w/hate or disrespect for me or trans people I will delete your comment & may block you. If you want to disagree w/me privately because we have a relationship then reach out to me where your comments aren’t hurting others who might see them. I will respond if/when I have the bandwidth. In closing I ask you to please choose love before anything else. 🤍 #TransRightsAreHumanRights To learn: @pinkmantaray @alokvmenon @thejeffreymarsh @translawcenter

Caption : Raised in the Bahá’í Faith I was always taught the beauty and transcendence of Christ and His teachings. To be a Baha’i was to also love Jesus and see His teachings as truth, affirming the oneness of our common Creator. I’m so grateful for their timelessness, and timeliness. This particular teaching… So simple. So challenging. So beautiful. How gorgeous that He never said where the neighborhood ended. Maybe we weren’t ready yet to comprehend living on a sphere, or to see that the (seemingly) uncrossable boundaries were all of our own creation. Praying that we catch up to this teaching. Praying that we see each other as one family. Praying that as we learn to be more loving to ourselves that it teaches us to love others more, and vice versa. As a dear sister of mine says: I love you. I love me. I love us. A joyous Christmas to all. 🙏🌟 “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (22:37-39). Caption : Immigrant women, girls, and all survivors of violence deserve to live in safety and with dignity. On #GivingTuesday, I’m proud to support @tahirihjustice, a national nonprofit (US) that serves immigrants fleeing gender-based violence. The Tahirih Justice Center is named after Tahirih, a revolutionary 19th-century Persian woman of the Baháʼí Faith who was executed in Persia (now known as Iran) for unveiling and speaking out about her religious/spiritual beliefs. This took place more than two centuries ago, and yet, courageous women like Tahirih are still fighting for the most basic human rights here in the United States and all around the world. By amplifying the experiences of survivors in communities, courts, and Congress, Tahirih’s mission is to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity. I hope you’ll consider supporting @tahirihjustice this #GivingTuesday with a donation of any amount. Together, we can create a world that uplifts women, girls, immigrants, and all survivors of violence. Caption : Our connection. Stark. Infinite. So fixed that to forget another’s only snuffs out our own. This thought rises over and over in my mind, in my heart, in conversations, in these dark days. Days filled with grieving in and for Israel, grieving in and for Palestine, grieving the world over. Days of anger, fear. Days texts stay green, whatsapps sit unread. Nights wondering if dear ones in the Holy Land, our Holy Land, didn’t make it. Relief, as a reply makes it through. I remember gunshots in another place, hiding under car windows, forced out for food but fairly sure we’d be ok. Now so many have no such hope. No hope at all. After weeks healing from illness, years healing from scrolling and fighting and watching and pleading — a crumbling world taking me with it — I’ve learned to breathe and rest, to value mindful silence, constructive patience, prayer, joy. Not to forget but to remember, to hold space, hold myself together because the battles are lifetimes long. I watch as the logical response to bitter hatred is bitter hatred, an eye for an eye for an eye. And I know, in my soul, in every fiber of my being, that the enemy is the hatred itself. The old logic has to die. In its place: Opening. Wisdom. Knowing. Humanity is one. Every border, class, caste, race, fight over religion is a lie. And that lie is where we must bury our swords, claw through sinew, rip and shred with ragged breath and tears streaming. Roar at the top of our lungs that we won’t believe those who’d send thousands to war for their coffers or egos or ancestral quarrels, from the comfort of any place at all. And when the steaming mess lies strewn about we stand on its jagged pieces, making sure it never comes together again. We look to each other across this battlefield, different hues and languages and prayers, and closing eyes that have all seen slaughter we bow our heads in a promise to never forget each other again. Humanity can’t really be taken. It can only be given away. Many hope you’ll join them in this squandering. Defy them, remind them by remembering your own and theirs. #IStandWithHumanity Image: Black background, white lettering. Centered, the word “humanity”.

Caption : TW: Violence against women 40 years ago today 10 women in Iran were killed for living out their beliefs. Please join me in learning about and sharing their stories and the stories of countless women in Iran who have been fighting and continue to fight for freedom in ways that move our entire world. In this video I share about Mona Mahmudnizhad, one of the women killed. She inspired me growing up and also inspired the creation of @themonafoundation — which it is my great honor to support. I hope you’ll watch and/or read on to learn about her and carry these stories forward. #OurStoryIsOne @ourstoryisone “ #OurStoryIsOne is a global campaign marking the 40th anniversary of the execution of 10 Baha’i women in Shiraz, Iran, who were hanged for their belief in a faith that promotes gender equality, justice and truthfulness. The executions prompted a global wave of support for the persecuted Iranian Baha’i community. The campaign has dedicated this anniversary to all women in Iran, regardless of faith and background, who have contributed to the long struggle for gender equality, calling for artistic content to honor the 10 as well as all the women in Iran. Following their arrests, and for six months prior to their execution, the 10 women faced brutal interrogations, torture, and ill treatment in an effort to force them to recant their faith. They were asked to choose between their beliefs or their lives. They chose to stand for equality and justice. “The arduous path to gender equality in Iran has been walked by countless women over the decades. That road has been marked by the sacrifices of those who chose to stand for their principles even over their lives,” says Simin Fahandej, the Baha’i International Community Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.” via @bahaibic #WomanLifeFreedom #Iran #OurStoryIsOne Video description: Close up of me, facing the camera. One that’s easily missed even by people very close-by because of something called the Instinctive Drowning Response. Link in my bio for an article about it. Caption : Greetings from my back yard! I’ve been excited to share this one for a while. 📚✨ #BreatheDeep: An Illustrated Guide to the Transformative Power of Breathing is the newest book by the fantastic @mishablaise. It’s a fun, beautiful dive into breathing and how beyond keeping us alive, it can be used to improve our lives. We can even improve the world around us! Misha is someone I love nerding out with on science/health/inner life topics. And I admire the way she’s able to make them accessible to almost anyone. Not to mention she does it from the heart, with artwork that makes me happy. I felt ✨inspired✨ (did you know inspire is another word for breathe?! 🌬️) to share my favorite breath work technique here. It’s so easy. It’s in the book and also spoken about in depth by one of my other faves, Dr Andrew Huberman. I hope you find it helpful and that it inspiiiiires 🤓 YOU to look at how something so simple can make such a difference. Check out @mishablaise for lots of uplifting, funny, thought-provoking wellness/well-being content. 🌬️ #Health #Wellness #Bookstagram Video description: Me, to camera. I have medium brown skin and dark brown eyes. My brown hair is twisted. At times I hold the book Breathe Deep: An Illustrated Guide to the Transformative Power of Breathing. It has a blue and green cover with a purple person breathing out multicolored breath while holding a multicolored heart in their arms. It is by Misha Maynerick. At a few points I show illustrated pages from the book. In two silent moments before and after I demonstrate breath work the screen reads “Here we go…” and “We did it. Enjoy some virtual mangoes” (over a photo of mangoes). The video ends with a still of me holding the book with text that says “Thanks for watching my book report!”

Soon, that pain will end.” A man cries openly as he holds up a sign bearing an image of Mahsa Amini and a young woman in front of him, with white bandages and what looks like blood on her face, sobs as she sings along.

Caption : Look at the Universe.✨ I did laundry (finally). This shirt was clean (finally). Traveled w/it because it’s a fave. It grabbed me so I threw it on. Walked out the door thinking ‘I ♥️ this shirt’ (I don’t usually like words on my clothes but it’s comfy & the right size & good energy) & then thought ‘Wait. What day is today?’ IT’S 7/10!! #ChronicDiseaseDay!! @chronicdiseaseday sent me this shirt a yr or so ago, but I didn’t get to post. Still I appreciated it & what it made me think of: How many people I love, including me, have lived w/chronic disease (CD). Examples of these are heart disease, stroke, cancer, depression, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, asthma & many more. Any disease that lasts 3+ mos. Some greatly impact lives, some are more manageable. CDs are very common — 6 in 10 Americans live or have lived w/at least 1! 30% have multiple! Covid increased that number as per the WHO, 10-20% of Covid infections leads to Long Covid. 😓 Many of these diseases are ‘invisible’ — so a lot of us, our family & loved ones are dealing w/challenges others may have no clue about. These diseases are often neglected by our healthcare system & folks w/some of them are often told for years their symptoms are ‘all in their head.’ Black & brown communities especially face higher incidences of CD. Greater levels of childhood trauma & poverty also predispose us to chronic disease. Having a CD doesn’t have to be a terrible experience. But what goes a loooong way to making them manageable is addressing systemic, interpersonal, & internalized ableism — things that not only make CDs difficult but create more of them — & cultivating more thoughtful communities. We can do this by learning more about the experiences of those w/CD, practicing empathy rather than sympathy (feeling WITH rather than FOR), supporting prevention/treatment, respecting accessibility like parking spots & bathroom stalls designed for folks w/disabilities & learning about ableism (it’s stunningly common in our speech, buildings, media & more). Learning about CDs can enrich individual lives & communities. Let’s do it! #IStayStrong for all! @chronicdiseaseday Image Description in Alt Text

We were told back in 2021 (when we were negotiating) that the AMPT loves to use data to control us. Cancelling streaming services feeds their assertion that streaming is inherently voliatale and risky, and that is why they should be able to hire fewer of us and pay us less. They maintain that streaming is still untested. We all know that’s the primary way people watch what we make. Caption : Grateful. Grateful. Grateful. I hope so many more people will get to experience work like this — not just with @themonafoundation but in all contexts. Making space for the qualities and capacities that our world has (mistakenly) considered less-than allows for so much that hasn’t been seen or known yet to come to the fore. I’m trying to remember this in all that I do. I’m working on not to apologizing if I feel emotions welling up, not saying I’m “getting emotional” as if tears are weird and exotic and we are not constantly feeling emotions. I’m working on pausing to breathe and/or say a little prayer before speaking or creating. I’m working on letting the ancestors in. For way too long we’ve valued the head over the heart and the material over the spiritual — or we’ve pitted them against each other. Incorporating them all is going to help us advance exponentially in all we are trying to do. I’m just so grateful to work with an organization that values and encourages this. Please do share examples here if you’ve been incorporating more of yourself into what you’re up to. I’d love to see what you’re discovering. 🙏🖤 Video description: Me to camera. Caption : Learning to soothe the ache of earthly loss with remembrance of the gift of another spiritual ancestor gained… Kevin Locke, Lakota name Tȟokéya Inážiŋ, meaning “The First to Arise,” brought so much beauty to the lives of so many with his gorgeous artistic talents. I never got to know him, but he was so often just a degree of separation away that I benefited from his steady, gentle presence and guidance in the Bahá’í community of the US. I feel so sad… I can only imagine the grief of those who were close to him. Praying for infinite blessings on his journey, and for soothing and healing for the hearts of his loved ones. I am filled with so much gratitude for and inspiration from his life on this plane. If you didn’t know this beautiful man please look up his life, his gorgeous flute playing and hoop dances. May the mission of his life carry on: “All of the people have the same impulses, spirits, and goals. Through my music and dance, I want to create a positive awareness of oneness of humanity.” — Kevin Locke 🙏 Image Descriptions: Slide 1 — Kevin smiling, with brown skin and his hair in two gray braids. Caption : Fun fact: ALL of these are false. 🤡💩 I’ve been hearing a lot since the #SAGAFTRA strike began about how we’re millionaires complaining about having too few millions. Truth is, most union actors can’t even afford to have acting as their only job. But credible-looking websites claim to tell “everything you want to know” about an actor. Our ‘lives’ become clickbait. People (and now computers) make things up about us to grab attention. So me supposedly having hundreds of thousands of dollars, or millions (would be nice! 😅) gets used as a way to attract interest to their sites. *Every click gets them paid* and they know there’s more of an appetite for astronomical numbers than for facts that aren’t usually accessible anyway without hacking someone’s bank accounts. As actors and writers are striking for justice and to protect our existence, please know that there are MANY ways we are misrepresented. I first read that I was worth $55M back while I was living in a camper trailer to save money. And these articles lie about everything from my birthday to my measurements to my relationship status. They’ve confused my own family members! I do make great money sometimes. But if I’m between projects, residuals are generally my only income. As my fellow actors have been saying repeatedly, our residuals are shrinking. We are also artists who don’t or can’t necessarily take every job, for a variety of reasons. We do not get paid leave. If we have to pause working because of illness or injury, to care for a loved one, etc we are SOL. And we are nearly all making a tiny fraction of what the decision makers are. Please be careful where you’re getting your information. Listen to actors, a community with enormous economic diversity, and trust that we’re not all just out here counting gold bricks. We’re fighting together — the few counting gold bricks and the many pinching pennies — for economic justice and security. That’s something every human deserves. #SagAftraStrike Image: Screenshots of four clickbait articles which all falsely say my net worth is $600K, $9M, $18M and $55M. A poop emoji sits in their midst.

Caption : Many thanks to all who are supporting education worldwide via @themonafoundation!! Please check them out. I think you’ll be as excited about and encouraged by Mona’s work as I am! Every dollar, prayer, good wish counts. For monetary donations you can choose a particular project or let Mona send your contribution to the place with the most need at the time you give it. And you can set up drives for a group of friends or coworkers, or have friends support Mona’s projects for your birthday. Please consider getting to know the projects through the Mona website and socials and sharing. Lots of options, all very appreciated and powerful. Thank you! 🙏📚💫 #TheMonaFoundation #Education VIDEO DESCRIPTION: Close up of me, brown skin and brown curly hair, wearing a tortoise shell-style glasses and a light blue denim button down. I’m looking into camera talking and there are yellow captions of my words at the bottom of the frame.

Caption : Alright folks! How are we working with money these days?? I just got inspired by @maggieq posting from her garden and thought ‘that’s a money saver!’ Especially those of us impacted by the current #WGA strike and possible #SAGAFTRA and #DGA strikes — we might need to make our money stretch further than many of us already have. Let’s share some ways we’re saving/making money and supporting our well-being during this time. I’ll start! 1. I’m looking to and asking others for their ideas and examples. 2. I’m thinking more about what I really need. 3. I’m cooking ahead more for myself and my parents (I’m very fortunate to live near them 🙏♥️) 4. I’m making backup plans and exploring my lesser-used but dying to get out there abilities. 5. I’m reminding myself that my worth is not dictated by an outdated economic system or ideology but rather by eternal principles. “Dost thou reckon thyself only a puny form/When within thee the universe is folded?” — Baha’u’llah 6. I’m remembering how little I’ve gotten by on at various times in my life — and that in many of those periods I’ve collected some of my favorite memories. 7. I’m remembering the pricelessness of humility. 8. I’m remembering my impressive (if I do say so myself 😎) toilet paper rationing abilities. Thank you Auntie ‘Rona! 😅 9. I’m thinking of the incalculable benefits of friendship and the sometimes shocking sweetness of brief interactions with strangers. 10. I’m remembering that I’m not and have never been alone. I’m accompanied by friends, family (biological and chosen), our ancestors (pretty sure they don’t just stick to supporting family of origin), and Spirit. 11. I’m grateful for the power of gratitude to change a slog into a quest and a struggle into an adventure. 12. I’m remembering that it’s not our paychecks that make us artists/teachers/healers etc. It’s our souls. But being paid fairly is important too. ☺️ In essence I’m looking at material, emotional, mental and spiritual interventions to reframe my perception of life on a daily basis. And I would love to hear your thoughts — from regrowing scallions to healing generational trauma about money. Now you, please! 🤩🙏

Caption : And trans men are men. And non-binary trans people are non-binary. And no one’s trans experience — especially in a time when we can clearly, collectively see that gender expression is heavily influenced by the culture and societal norms where we live or come from — no trans person’s experience is taking away from anyone else’s experience of gender. And fighting to dismantle unjust systems and reorder society to be more just and representative of whatever we believe in but then oppressing people of trans experience through policy or neglect, physical abuse or verbal abuse (yes, our insistence on jumping into trans people’s posts to tell them they don’t matter or we think something is wrong with them is Abuse) makes us oppressors. Most of us are just now learning how long to effectively wash our hands in the year Two Thousand Twenty One, we don’t think we maybe have some room to learn and grow in relation to whole entire human beings?? If you believe in God you know God is infinite. If you don’t believe in God you know tangible existence is, if not infinite, at least so vast as to be beyond measure. There’s really really REALLY room for all of us to expand our understandings, our hearts, and our love for each other. If we feel threatened by trans folks existing that’s on us to examine within ourselves. Listening to and loving trans people is just going to make life fuller, open our minds and hearts to possibilities, help us all get freer, and remind us that to be human and family goes beyond gender — that there’s gorgeous diversity and a wealth of understanding to be encountered by learning from trans people. Big love to all our trans fam out there. Thank you for being exactly you. 💙💗🤍 Happy #TransDayOfVisibility [Image Description: Seven slides here are from @glaad. Caption : Feeling SO grateful in the midst of challenges in my industry to have the bright light of @themonafoundation 📚✨ shining in my life. To be able to work with folks supporting the education of over a million young people worldwide while ALSO conversing with respect, humility and candor…. To see up close examples of financial transparency, efficiency and generosity… To see the responsible distribution of wealth and the aim of helping all others build it… 😮‍💨🙏🥹 I hope the example of the way The Mona Foundation works spreads far and wide. Please have a look at their wonderful projects via the link in my bio. Not just to donate (tho that’s always welcome) but to lift your spirits and/or give you ideas of what can be. Lots of videos on their site show the various schools all over the world. I hope this is just one of the reminders for you of what’s possible, what’s good and growing in the world. Wishing you a beautiful rest of your day. 🤍 #TheMonaFoundation #Education #GirlsEducation #EducationForAll Video description: Me, leaning against a couch. Caption : So many thanks for all the wonderful birthday greetings over the last few days! I’m so grateful I got to spend my birthday doing things I love — alone, with IG friends via Live, and with my family. Feeling so blessed. I’m doing my best to read each greeting and respond where I can but if I don’t get to respond directly to you please know I’m feeling grateful and full of the love you’ve shared with me. As much of a downside social media can have, it also offers this magical experience of connection with so many souls. And this week it’s brought me happiness through you. I wish you allll the deepest happiness in return. In gratitude, Parisa Image description: A close up pic of me leaning into my mom. Caption : Great news!!! @themonafoundation exceeded our #GivingTuesday goal by over 50%!! 18 young women will now be able to complete their education at the Barli Institute in Indore, India — improving the lives of an estimated 1,800 people along with them over time!! I’m so happy to see this and to know that so many people worked together to improve lives through so many organizations yesterday. Definitely something to remember when things get tough, that good things are happening too. I know I need that reminder daily. 🙏♥️🥹 Many many thanks to all who contributed financially or with good wishes and prayers for the success of this endeavor. Love to all! Caption : I’m excited and encouraged by my first @themonafoundation birthweek campaign! $670.83 will cover schooling for at least 61 students through Mona’s worldwide partners. 🙏🥰💓 That’s an investment in at least 61 futures, at least 61 families and a whole lot of communities. At a time when finances are tight for so many of us, the monetary investment is so appreciated — and so are all the non-monetary gifts, which are meaningful in their own right. If you’d like to get to know #TheMonaFoundation have a look at their IG page, which links to their website, or check Mona out on YouTube for short videos highlighting the wonderful efforts of Mona’s partners and the work of Mona Foundation itself. 🙏🥰📚 Many thanks! #Education #GirlsEducation #Prosperity #Service #ScalingHope Video description: Me, sitting close up to camera. Caption : May we clear away that which has not served us, may our commitment to that which is good be reconfirmed, may we experience the purest of joys — even in the midst of challenges. May the challenges strengthen us, increase our gratitude and compassion. May the shortcomings we see in others remind us of our own. May we be cognizant of the ancestors supporting our growth. May we over and over remember our own, and each other’s, humanity. And may we humbly, gratefully recognize and receive infinite blessings. We made it this far y’all. Here’s to applying all we’ve learned to a more courageous, just, prosperous, beautiful 2023. Happy New Year 🎆 With love, Parisa Video description: filtered multicolored fireworks in a night sky.

Caption : Been grieving lately. We lost a beloved family member way too soon, so suddenly the words “this just doesn’t make sense” echo through conversation after conversation, day after day. @andygrammer’s words touched my heart. 🙏 Reframing challenges and getting proactive (aka creative) with them has always brought me growth and joy. I look forward to using this example for our recent loss, and for the many that are sure to come if I get to hang out on this planet as long as I’d like to. Embracing and flowing with the realities death, loss and grief feels so healthy. I’m so grateful for insights like Andy’s that provide such guiding light. 🤲✨🕊️ Video description: @andygrammer and @podcrushed ( @nnnava @pennbadgley @scribbledbysophie ) dressed casually and in different locations, on a video call/interview. Caption : My dear friend of 25+ years @raziwilson is taking things back home to Maui in a few days to help after these heartbreaking fires. This is for people she knows personally and whose needs she’s able to address directly. She is inviting others to contribute. If you feel moved to donate through an individual, she is someone I’ve always known to be trustworthy, huge-hearted and no non-sense. She’ll make sure people get what they need. Thank you. 🙏 For those who’d prefer an org, via @abcnews: “The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement pledged to match donations — up to $100,000 initially, now increased to $1 million — for a campaign they began Wednesday, with initial support from the Alakaʻina Foundation Family of Companies. An online tracker shows that more than $442,000 has been given from 3,300 people as of Thursday.” And GoFundMe also has vetted fundraisers for individuals. If you’re reading this from Hawaii, please know you’ve been in our hearts and prayers. May your hearts be soothed in the midst of all this loss and grief. And may you have the gentlest, quickest healing and restoration possible. Sending you so much love. 🙏🌺🤍 Slide descriptions: 1. Video of me up close, talking to camera. The message superimposed reads: “FROM RAZI: I am traveling back to Maui on the 18th and am going to bring supplies. If you would like to donate please Venmo @razi-wilson. I’ll be bringing specifically what families are needing right now. 3. A Venmo QR code for Razi with her photo at the center.
