But this shirt I straight up stole from him sometime around 1994. He received it in 1988, and I’ve been patiently waiting for the day when I could strut around in it in earnest. Today is that day. Samm Levine Instagram - I vividly recall watching the first episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. My dad let my brother and me stay up extra late to see it. I even remember the first sketch they did - ‘Actual Items.’ It was all amazing to me. Letterman, Leno, Carson - they were great, but they belonged to (most of) our parents. Conan (and Andy!) were ours. I grew up watching Late Night with Conan, and to this day, I still find myself laughing at a random joke, sketch or line from an interview. It’s permanently permeated my brain in the most wonderful way. And now, even 20+ years later, one of my all-time greatest memories is being lucky enough to have appeared on the show. It was Jan. of 2000, and I came on to promote Freaks & Geeks. Most of my jokes didn’t land with the crowd, but for me, sitting in that chair with Conan and Andy on either side, was like being in a dream. They couldn’t have been kinder or funnier - both during and after my segment. I stayed on the couch through the end of the show, and when the band played the closing theme, I turned to Andy and said “ah, the music I fall asleep to every night.” He said “you stay up to watch this show?” I replied “I always choose comedy over sleep.” Thank you, @teamcoco, for 28 hilarious years of keeping me up late. . . . #teamcoco #conan

Samm Levine Instagram - Many moons ago, I threw a little Oscars viewing party at my home. I was shooting a movie at the time, and invited several of my fellow castmates to attend. As a very sharp 19-year-old host, I had only the best stuff on hand to serve my guests: a vegetable platter, Smirnoff Ice, and Twinkies. Naturally, the Twinkies were a big hit. Towards the end of the show, my pal @chrisevans and I decided to split the last one. He pulled the wrapper off and cut it down the middle. But something must’ve distracted me, because I forgot to eat my half. Oops. The party ended, and I decided to leave cleaning up till the next day. Upon rediscovering my uneaten Twinkie half some 12 hours later, I was a little surprised to see its appearance and texture hadn’t changed in any way. I mean, if you’ve ever left bread out overnight, you know you’re going to wake up to stale bread. Now most of us have heard the rumor that “Twinkies never see the inside of an oven. They’re entirely lab-created and they last forever.” So I got curious. I wanted to see what that same Twinkie half would look like after a week of sitting on my table. Then a week became a month. And eventually a whole year. And so on... It wound up living on top of my fridge, untouched by anyone for the rest of its life. This Twinkie has survived two moves, several presidents, and now a pandemic. I cannot tell you exactly when it started to look the way it does now, but I can say it looked mostly “fresh” for almost a decade. Even so, please take a moment to be horrified by how good this (actually-was-baked-in-an-oven) Twinkie looks on its 20th birthday. Chris, if you’re still interested, I’m willing to give you my half now. All yours. #NotAnotherTeenMovie #TwinkiesAreForever #YesImAwareHowGrossThisIs

They’re entirely lab-created and they last forever.” So I got curious. I wanted to see what that same Twinkie half would look like after a week of sitting on my table. Then a week became a month. And eventually a whole year. And so on... It wound up living on top of my fridge, untouched by anyone for the rest of its life. This Twinkie has survived two moves, several presidents, and now a pandemic. I cannot tell you exactly when it started to look the way it does now, but I can say it looked mostly “fresh” for almost a decade.
