Happy Birthday to our wise founder, chair, and beloved friend David Lynch! Thank you for all you’ve done over the many years to bring the bliss of #TranscendentalMeditation to so many people!
Bob Roth started wanting to change the world back in 1968 when he volunteered for Bobby Kennedy’s presidential campaign as a high school senior, which morphed into a desire to go into politics himself and become a US senator. @meditationbob’s passion to change the world has not waned a bit since 1968. Ultimately, it did not lead him to a life in politics but rather, for him, something more foundational and more impactful. Recognizing early on that true and lasting change must begin within, he learned TM in 1969, became a meditation teacher in 1972, and since then has personally taught over 10,000 people to meditate, and through the work of the David Lynch Foundation, helped to inspire millions more worldwide. Now, with Bob’s leadership and an amazingly smart and experienced team, the DLF is changing the lives of countless people, bringing TM for free in inner-city community centers, hospitals and clinics, police and fire departments, veteran service organizations, and women’s anti-violence groups. And through all this work, the day is coming near when TM will be covered by public and private insurance carriers so that everyone who wants to learn to meditate will be able to do so. Can you imagine our nation and our world when everyone meditates? Today is Bob’s birthday. If you ask him what he wants it will be nothing material. It will be what he has always wanted—to change the world. So all of us at the David Lynch Foundation have decided to mount a campaign to raise funds to help him realize his birthday wish. Your gift will go toward teaching thousands of people to meditate. From today, October 10, through October 16, any donation you give to the DLF will be matched dollar for dollar by a very generous donor. That means any amount, from $500, up to $500,000, will be matched. Your donation will give Bob the best gift he could imagine—being able to give TM to adults and kids who live in violence and fear and poverty—people who need it the most. Please make your donation today—and be sure to sign Bob’s birthday card by leaving a message of your appreciation and support, at the links in our bio. Thank You!
In 2024, the David Lynch Foundation continues to provide access to #TranscendentalMeditation at no cost, to help heal the widespread wounds of trauma in our society and world.

As we approach Thanksgiving, we want to take a moment to share our gratitude for all of the support we receive that makes our work possible. The David Lynch Foundation is not standing on the sidelines when toxic stress is an everyday occurrence. We are where we should be—on the frontlines, stepping up to be a part of the solution—alongside supporters like you! We partner with communities across America to bring the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique to tens of thousands of people, including firefighters, EMTs and law enforcement officers, veterans, people suffering from substance use disorder, survivors of intimate partner violence, and residents of underserved and vulnerable neighborhoods. More than 400 peer-reviewed studies verify the physiological and psychological benefits of TM for reducing stress-related disorders, including hypertension, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and insomnia, while increasing creativity, energy, intelligence, and focus. Take four minutes to watch this video about The Meditation Center in Washington DC and the impact it is having on people’s lives. Thank you for believing in #TM and for ensuring more people can benefit from it. We wish you and your loved ones a very Happy #Thanksgiving holiday! P.S. Mark your calendar for #GivingTuesday, Nov 28, to join us in expanding access to #TranscendentalMeditation!
This Veterans Day, there is hope. After meditating for the first time, Sean Villa, a U.S. Army Veteran, shared that he felt “like a rock had been lifted” off him. While national and world events have many of us on edge, we want you to know there is a tool that can ease anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress, and with your support, we can give every brave service member access to it. The David Lynch Foundation is among the top organizations aiding our veterans. Our 21 To None program brings meditation to thousands seeking relief all over the country. Our groundbreaking, multi-site research study, comparing #TranscendentalMeditation to traditional post-traumatic stress treatments, is revealing just how effective #TM is in relieving the devastating symptoms of PTSD. We hope the results of our study will help secure government-funded TM instruction to millions more brave veterans and first responders who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Show your gratitude this #VeteransDay by giving #veterans access to Transcendental Meditation, which has been shown to reduce symptoms of PTSD and depression by up to 55 percent. Help us pass on hope to more #Vets today! Donate now at the link in our bio.

“In the last several years, there’s been more documented firefighter suicides than line-of-duty deaths. [Transcendental Meditation] makes thoughts less intrusive.” -Chief Mike West, Front Range, CO Fire and Rescue The David Lynch Foundation is proud to partner with Front Range Fire Rescue in Northern Colorado to bring the power of TM to the brave men and women who risk their lives everyday to keep our communities safe. Read more about this pilot program, as reported by MSN, at the link in our bio. “Our firefighters experience first-hand some of the most traumatic events that happen in our communities. Those out West in places like Colorado and California who are dealing with wildfires are under-resourced, overworked and overwhelmed. Compared to the general population, firefighters are at heightened risk for depression, posttraumatic stress, and suicide. The health and wellness of our first responders is critical not only to themselves, their families, and their brothers and sisters on the job but also to our public safety as a nation.” Support our firefighters today by making a donation to the Resilient Responders program at www.resilientresponders.org (Photo credit: Jim Rydbom, Greeley Tribune (CO) Staff Photographer) #resilientresponders #tmforfirefighters #frontrangefireandrescue
Today we remember the many lives tragically lost on September 11th, 2001. We honor those who safeguard our city, and our country, and suffer deep trauma in the aftermath of that day. FDNY Commissioner (Ret.) Salvatore Cassano recalls the toll of September 11th, and the benefits Transcendental Meditation has provided in the time since. The David Lynch Foundation continues to bring the healing effects of the TM technique to the FDNY and NYPD, as part of our Resilient Responders initiative. Learn more at www.resilientresponders.org

Improving mental health ranks as the third most-popular New Year’s Resolution (36% of people) according to research from @forbes Magazine. (Forbes also notes that 80% of people have given up on their resolutions by February!) That makes this as good a time as ever for us to ask: How’s your meditation practice going? Do you know anyone who made a New Years Resolution to meditate more regularly? Take this as a sign to check in with them and offer encouragement. Find out how you can get support for your meditation practice at TM.org and davidlynchfoundation.org.
Washington, DC is a city that is healing a little more every day. We are providing the evidence-based tool of #TranscendentalMeditation to address the devastating impacts of trauma, stress, and violence among some of Greater Washington’s most vulnerable residents and neighborhoods. Nurses are critical to our individual health and are a lynchpin in the strength and vibrancy of our entire healthcare system. And yet, nurses nationwide are struggling. Depression, anxiety, overwork, and overwhelm plagued the profession before the COVID-19 pandemic and now are pushing many nurses out of the profession altogether. The David Lynch Foundation has supported our nation’s nurses since the start of the pandemic, and a just-released study, published in the Journal of Nursing Administration, documents how our Heal the Healers Now initiative, which teaches Transcendental Meditation (TM) to nurses and other clinicians, has helped nurses overcome stress and burnout and elevated their wellbeing. The study, conducted among nurses at three hospitals in Florida, found that, just one month after learning TM and practicing the technique on a daily basis, the nurses who learned TM experienced: • 62% decrease in anxiety • 53% decrease in PTSD • 27% decrease in burnout • 15% increase in flourishing Learn more about the exciting findings of the study at the link in our bio. According to lead author Jennifer Bonamer, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, NPD-BC, Nursing Professional Development Specialist at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, “This study is important because it demonstrated that TM was substantially helpful, even during COVID, in reducing PTSD, anxiety and burnout experienced by nurses. Furthermore, it helped to improve nurses’ experience of thriving (flourishing) beyond just surviving, even in the midst of today’s challenging healthcare environment.” Time and time again, studies like these demonstrate that TM improves health and wellbeing. Results like these further our resolve to bring TM to more nurses and healthcare professionals, supporting those who keep our families and communities healthy and strong. Visit healthehealersnow.org to learn more about this program, which has brought TM to more than 2,300 healthcare workers at more than 80 sites nationwide.
“I was going through extreme anxiety, stress, depression, and insomnia because I was dealing with a personal crisis. Losing my daughter in 2016 was extremely traumatic… After just two days practicing TM, I was able to sleep for the first time in a year and a half… It saved my life.” – Lisa Beatha, U.S. Army Veteran and Director of Veteran Affairs at the City University of New York This Veterans Day, there is hope. “Over time, meditators often experience changes in consciousness even when they are not meditating, which are associated with many benefits to both physical health and psychological well-being. TM is particularly good for stress reduction. It can be surprisingly helpful for people with SAD during their difficult winter days when even small things feel stressful…” -Dr. Norman Rosenthal (Defeating SAD, Chapter 15) The David Lynch Foundation is thrilled to feature Dr. Norman Rosenthal and the release of his new landmark book, #DefeatingSAD. Dr. Rosenthal is a world renowned psychiatrist and best selling author who first described Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and has made significant contributions to our understanding of TM. Rosenthal’s new book, #DefeatingSAD, offers advice on how to identify, treat, and overcome both winter and summer varieties of SAD. He includes various techniques in defeating the condition, including cognitive-behavioral approaches, diet and exercise advice, medication, and meditation. #DefeatingSAD is available today! It’s Giving Tuesday! On the most charitable day of the year, there’s no better gift you can give your community than the resilience and inner calm that comes with practicing Transcendental Meditation. Here’s why your gift will make a transformative and positive impact… National and world events have many of us on edge. We carry the burdens of trauma and stress and battle addictions and burnout. We search for relief from it all. We want to heal. That’s exactly why we started Meditate America. Over the past year, the David Lynch Foundation has taught thousands of Americans to meditate as part of the first-ever, large-scale public health initiative to use evidence-based Transcendental Meditation to alleviate the epidemic of stress in our country. Teachers, healthcare providers, veterans, first responders, survivors of abuse, and families living in neighborhoods challenged by violence, economic inequities, and health disparities—these are some of the members of our communities who can greatly benefit from free access to #TranscendentalMeditation instruction. By reducing the impacts of stress in our communities, we can build a healthier, more resilient America where well-being belongs to all of us. This #GivingTuesday, give your fellow Americans the opportunity to experience joy, relief, and better health. Invest in expanding access to Transcendental Meditation today. As Americans, too many of us from all walks of life continue to suffer the devastating effects of toxic stress.
