The universe is watching my special, re-streaming July 27-Aug 2. Link in bio! Hey btw what happened with that thing that you were planning to do?
Two years ago I finished writing a novel which I felt had weight and purpose and soul and punctuation, and I am happy to announce that my debut novel will be releasing with @harpercollinsin in a few months! I am many things, but I have always been a writer first and a toaster last. Watch this space for gravitational waves.

ARCs of my first novel! (Cover is a placeholder). Tl;dr : Book out in January, the first of many. I decided to be a writer when I was 12, and finished my first novel at 30. The intervening years have been spent greying prematurely and talking ideas off of ledges. I have seen my ideas flash, sputter and die in pages documents, note files, workbooks (unruled), paper napkins, hotel stationary, whiteboards, soap bars, steamy windows, meeting rooms, conference calls, foreign bars, second acts, vim editor and workbooks(ruled). There are ideas so big they block your arteries, ideas that go thud in the night, ideas that cast clawed shadows in dark alleys, ideas that speak in tongues and burst in moonlight, ideas that collapse under their own weight, ideas that are dropped due to poor reception —please rate the quality of your call— and bad ideas that wear leather jackets and skip school. Some ideas need a stent to flow through your heart, some dreams need to be negotiated with and some ambitions are defanged by new personal philosophies presenting the inevitable conclusion that before your desires, you are so very, very small. But if you are ever so lucky and foolish and persistent and patient, you may discover your own tether to magic and make the tight rope walk across the chasm between you and your wishes. Acts of God will forever be a memory of the time I found courage enough to square with a dream so big it scared me, and found in it, a friend. Then that’s all, how r u?

A few years ago @sindhusmurthy and I wrote a movie, and it’s finally releasing! Sindhu is a superstar who acted in and directed the movie and is currently flying through the air, looking for crime to fight. The movie is in Kannada —I wrote it in English, because my Kannada is far below screenplay level. It’s a story set in Bangalore in the 60s, I wasn’t alive in the 60s but it’s a safe bet that the world wasn’t backlit with apocalypse as much as it is now —yet in serenity too there were challenges and among the challenges, new and exciting sources for joy. The movie is about love and family, and it is not about meteors. Aachar and Co releases in theatres July 28! A walk down memory lane of the 1960’s Bangalore that brims with nostalgia, humor and drama. Get ready for the ‘Aachar & Co.’ experience in cinemas on 28th July, 2023! @ashwinipuneeth.rajkumar @sindhusmurthy @bindhumalini @abhimanyu_sadanandan @vishwaskashyap_nepathya @howiwanderwhatyouare @triloka_trivikrama @sonuvenugopaal @satishvinsta @gurudath_talwar @anandakalwadi @incharaa_suresh @harshil_koushik @vambho @anirudhacharya44 @_trishara @keerti_vardhini_official @_kirana_varshini @jagadishwarsukumar @shilparudrappa @bnhema.suvarna @immaginaio @prk.productions @prk.audio @do.creative.labs @divomusicofficial swastikspvtltd @krg_connects #AacharAndCo #AacharaVichara
Between the tour I’ve been signing books and avoiding haircuts. Thank you for buying, reading, loving and cage fighting with my first novel. It was a bestseller within a week, and a month and a half later it’s a formal guest at dinner parties. I love signing the book and I love talking about it, I love whispering about it, I love seeing copies worn from reading, copies with underlines and highlights and annotations, and I love discussing it with readers. We’re close to figuring an international publishing deal, though if you’re an international publisher who wants to meet in the park with a briefcase, I’m game. I’ll spend the year visiting more stores and on tour and signing books. If you have a favourite book store you’d like me to come to, let me know! More Acts of God, everywhere this year. See you soon!
Phase 1 of My 2024 tour! Link in bio! Tl;dr: two hours a night, first hour is standard stand up, the next hour is about my upcoming novel ‘Acts of God’. You can buy tickets to just the stand up or the whole 2 hours (which comes with a signed copy of the book!) Read more? 🦚 1. “Okay, Bye!” New Stand Up Comedy Show by Kanan Gill – 2024 You and Kanan are both tired of all his existential whingeing —Why are we here, what does it mean? Yuck. Who cares? How many specials can you try to dissect the nature of the human experience? Enough, right? Let’s party. OK BYE is about nothing at all. So far. But what does nothing mean? What is emptiness empty of? Are thoughts thieves in an empty house? Oh shut up dude stop it. 2. “Acts of God” Book Reading and Discussion by Kanan Gill – 2024 An hour discussing Kanan’s long awaited debut novel, Acts of God! For fans of reading and detractors alike, this hour is the quintessential book tour event and more — featuring readings from Acts of God, a discussion of process, nerdier aspects of creativity, a Q&A and hopefully some jokes. Attendees receive a signed copy of Acts of God along with their ticket!
The streaming event has now concluded, thank you very much for watching it. This was a new way to distribute a show, and I know it can be a bit fiddly going to a new place and signing up for a new thing, but it also feels a little more like an event. Whether you had watch parties with friends and family, or whether you had a watch party by yourselves at home, I hope it was —in every sense I use the word throughout the show— a party. Maybe I’ll find a new home for the special eventually, but we’ll always have July 7,8,9. Enjoy!
Kanan Gill is a writer and comedian from Bangalore, India. One of the founders of the Indian comedy scene, his notable works include ‘Yours Sincerely’ (Netflix), ‘Keep It Real’ (Prime Video), ‘Comicstaan’ (Prime Video), ‘Achaar & Co’ (Prime Video), and ‘Is This It?’. His highly anticipated debut novel, Acts of God, releases in 2024. Don’t miss his wit and charm at the Bangalore Literature Festival that’s happening on December 2nd and 3rd, 2023, at The Lalit Ashok. #KananGill #BlrLitFest
