A couple years ago in the midst of lockdown, I was in rural Ennis. Probably due to some sort of severe cabin fever, I started rambling around the county Clare (within my 5k radius 👀) pointing at hedges and stone walls and reviewing them then posting them here. Rather than be maligned as a madman, you all ran with the idea, probably also due to some sort of collective insanity that was rampant in the world’s population at the time. We needed to socialise, we needed therapy but instead we got a hairy Irish man reviewing hedges in the rain in the west of Ireland. Who’s to say if we’re better off? When asked if I wanted to make it into a book, I said “get me the people who published Finnegan’s Wake because they’re the only ones who’d have the guts” and that’s exactly what we did. @faberbooks are a dream of a publisher, they’ve been so good to let this fun idea blossom into print. So a massive thanks to them and also to @thecollaborationsagency for making it possible. The video series and now this book have been some of the things I’ve made that I’m proudest of. I very much view it as a collaboration with all the people who’ve liked, commented on, or shared the videos, or even who’ve come up to me and said how much they enjoy them. So thanks to everyone who’s done that, it means the world and I can’t wait to share the book with you all on September 12th! Killian x
