Life is good and beautiful and inspiring but life is also hard and stressful and sad. Trying to hold all the feelings, instead of falling into dwelling on only the negatives.
If you wanted a lil catch-up: Sam Thayer and I did a sold-out nerdy comedy show in St. Paul and it was a BLAST. A show that I felt legitimately great walking away from, which NEVER used to happen when I was doing stand-up multiple times a week.
Spring is springing here in Cbus, albeit a little early. But it’s hard to remember to worry when all of your plant friends are waking up from their naps 💖
Gave a talk in Indy, and was overwhelmed with all of the love and care and kindness from everyone I met. I signed posters for the first time and had a panic attack about where to sign them because I didn’t want to disappoint anyone 😅 Brains are silly, silly things!
Got to see my childhood bestie get married, and got to go to Italy to do so!! The day was full of laughing and running and dancing and music and dandelion wine amazing food and regular wine and so much love. It’s amazing seeing great people celebrating great people 😭❤️
The cluster headaches are back 🙃 and the burnout has been real!! I’ve been trying to let myself leisurely wander back to my love/obsession with all things foraging, but bills do still have to get paid 😆 birding has added a newfound layer of magic to hikes, though! I’m slooowly starting to recognize the songs, and now I feel even less alone in the woods than I did with just my plant relatives 💖
How are yall? Am I the only one who, despite the good things, has fallen into this kind of constant stress/tiredness cycle? I’m hoping once the weather is consistently warm it’ll all melt away like frost.
Also shoutout to @racheljoybarehl who took a couple of these pics and honestly turned around some rough days without even realizing it!!

Predicting winter weather with Persimmon seeds!! Also (as I found out on the clock app) I WAS TAUGHT WRONG 🤣 so I had to make a lil correction in the video!! Here’s hoping we do get a snowy winter after the drought all spring and summer!

Mushroom Chicky Tendies!! Using Laetiporus sulpherous, aka Chicken of the Woods aka Sulphur Shelf! These neon goobers have a long season here in Ohio, but with how dry it’s been, I’ve only been finding them recently (now that we’re getting morning dew!) they have pores NOT GILLS, and grow as shelves of decaying wood! And they really do taste and have the texture of chicken! I especially like this recipe because cooking COWs thoroughly is important! Lots of folks get stomachache’s from not doing so 😭 so in this they’re cooked in the brine AND in the air fryer, but the brine helps them stay moist! No dry nuggies in this house!!
How to preserve your mushrooms!! Featuring these GORGEOUS COTWs!!!
ITS PAWPAW SEASON YALL!!
WHO KEEPS DOIN THIS?? 🤣 Columbus, Ohio

My trip to Lawrence, Kansas was full of kind people doing wonderful work around plants and education! I had to show you guys the @lawrencefruittreeproject , which felt like an amusement park for me!! So many native and eclectic fruits and veggies, equipped with name tags and lots of informational signs to help with gathering them! I can tell it’s truly a labor of love, and I’m leaving extremely inspired to do more in my own neck of the woods 💗 Midwest Midbest! And thank you @thecommonsku for such a magical couple of days! 😭✨
I CANT STOP SNEEZING AND THE ROOF OF MY MOUTH IS ITCHY AND I KNOW RAGWEED IS SUCH A KEYSTONE SPECIES BUT DEAR LORDT LEAVE MY NASAL CAVITY ALONE

YAY FRIENDS IN CALI AND YAY FRUIT CURD 💝 thank you, Nicole 🥹💕 Columbus, Ohio
Alexis Nikole @blackforager visited Lawrence Community Orchard on Thursday! Not only was it a treat to meet Alexis and share knowledge and laughs with them, but we also indulged in the treat that is American persimmon! Of all the fruits growing here in Lawrence I think persimmon evokes the most joy in people. This glowing orange orb breaks the mold of what we think a fruit should be! Persimmon comes right at ya like a little satchel of sweet jam! We pick them up off the ground cuz they’re not palatable until they fall. I say, seeing a persimmon drop is good luck! And popping it in your mouth is even better luck!
This particular variety is called Early Golden! Persimmon season stretches from as early as late August all the way into December. It just depends on the characteristics of each tree. So keep a look out and find yourself some delicious coral colored globes!
