When I first started dating my now husband @drewseeley because of the awareness of his work back then while I was still building my career, It was hard to forge my own identity at times.
A true low blow was once getting invited to a charity event in San Diego when I was a host on E! – the org put me up in a nice hotel and made me feel so welcome – only to introduce on the red carpet as ‘Drew Seeley’s girlfriend.’ I mean … Wow.
That’s why I loved Ken’s arc in @barbiethemovie 💝
A lot of us are realizing we were always enough just because we are. Not because of what we do or who we know. As is.
I love how Greta Gerwig and Margo Robbie made feminism palatable and the patriarchy understandable. But the biggest takeaway for me was the truth: we all benefit when gender roles are less rigid and when women are not only let into spaces and valued for taking up space, but also made space for and welcomed into the party. It’s not enough to be tolerated. It’s about being thought of, appreciated, and welcome.
That’s all Ken really wants, too.
