the eruption that started on 18th of december was the most powerful of the now annual reykjanes peninsula volcanic activities . it just ended last night . out of the 4 eruptions ( geologists say it could happen every year now for a century ) it was the shortest and had most lava per minute … this eruption was right next to the mountain that i stood on in 1997 when i filmed with michel gondry a music video for the song “jóga”. the song was written for my ( still today ) best friend and she reminded me last month of that i had asked her at the time “who do you want to represent you in the video , iceland or kristbjörg kjeld ?” . she answered iceland and i remember explaining to michel that for me , mother earth , jóga , moss and lava is the same thing . and that i wanted to open my chest and reveal my lava-heart . and of course , michel being michel , he said “mais oui , bien sur”

COME JOIN US IN THE FIGHT AGAINST FISH FARMING IN ICELAND TOMORROW WITH LIVE PERFORMANCE BY GDRN, DJ SET BY FM BELFAST, AND WORLD PREMIERE OF ‘A SALMON NATION’!
Tomorrow evening, on February 8th, Patagonia, in collaboration with local NGOs NASF, AEGIS, Icelandic Wildlife Fund, and VÁ félag um vernd fjarðar, will be hosting an event featuring films, discussions, and live music.
Hosting the event will be Katrín Oddsdóttir, with Veiga Grétarsdóttir as the keynote speaker. Panel discussions will include Benedikta Guðrún Svavarsdóttir, Jón Kaldal, and Sigurður Jóhannesson. Patagonia’s newest film, A Salmon Nation, focusing on the impact of industrial fish farming in Iceland, will make its world premiere. The event will also include a live performance by GDRN and a DJ set by FM Belfast, to close out the night.
Together we’ll send this message to Iceland’s government: Open net salmon farms have no place in our wild waters.
