I have this way of knowing when I’m close to finishing a project: I find myself on the brink of losing it…OFTEN! 😂It’s right around the time final products start getting delivered, but they all need something else. Then, things go missing…and it all starts to get the better of me. Nevertheless, I’m good at channeling the “Keep Calm and Carry On” mantra. Have you ever been so passionate about a project that it wakes you up at night? There are two primary traits anyone involved in home or interior design MUST have: patience and flexibility. There’s so much going on at the same time that plans, no matter how great, inevitably get changed and rearranged. Why? Well, THAT part of the project is dependent on THIS thing getting done, but THIS needs a piece to come in before THAT can get put together. My new beach home is being totally designed around my life. That means what might seem odd to one person, totally makes sense for me. I’m leaning into that. One big example is my “zoom room.” It’s a room completely reserved for all the filming I do on a regular basis, because as you can see here, I’m ALWAYS filming something! If your home isn’t making your life easier, what’s the point? Pretty without purpose isn’t enough. We’re “doing home” differently this year, and life is already feeling a little better because of it. What’s one thing in your home that just works for you?
Today’s technology does amazing things for us in the home design industry. From computer science to video graphics, we can now show things with respect to home design that were unheard of years ago. Moms, when is the last time you took a moment just for yourself? Before you answer that, let’s set a few parameters. I’m not talking about sitting on the bench at the park while the kids play, or watching TV while the baby naps. I’m talking about time AWAY from the kids (and partner!), time away from work, time away from the racing thoughts about all the stuff on your to-do list. Have you done that recently? You should. And, I know this is easier said than done. But I’m not saying you need to do anything extravagant. A trip to the Maldives might not be possible. But can you go sit in your favorite coffee shop and enjoy a lavender matcha for an hour? Maybe you send the kids on a few errands with dad while you rest at home in silence. Or, can you make time for an afternoon walk to clear your head a few times a week? Whatever it is that will give you a few moments of reprieve, rest, relaxation, you DESERVE that. You are valuable, and we all need to do a better job of taking care of ourselves. Here’s hoping we do more of that in this year.

It’s simple. Life is just better when I’m in Ibiza! 😂 No, listen: I love L.A. it’s where I’m from and where I live. But, I always say that if there’s one place that has the potential to steal me away, it’s Ibiza, Spain! My vacation levels are running low, and the only antidote is a little time in those sparkling teal waters with some of my favorite people. Perhaps it’s time? ✈️
Take a good look at this photo. If you know me, you know this stance. This is me. All. The. Time! If there’s a phone in my hand and a smile on my face, I’m most likely working on some type of business project. To be honest, I don’t mind conducting transactions on the phone—it’s when things need to happen over email that you lose me. I prefer to have a good ol’ fashioned business meeting. Talk and chat. Engage and question. It’s the human aspect of interaction that makes doing business interesting. And, if we can sneak a glass of wine in at the conclusion of our conversation, I’d say that’s a meeting well spent!
So what happens when you pair the interior decor that you love together, the overall aesthetic doesn’t quite fit into a design category, but it makes your heart sing every time you experience it? That’s called Dopamine Design, and it’s all about what brings you joy. And what if it isn’t appreciated by others? Absolutely nothing! It’s all about YOU! Are you a bold color/pattern person, or do you prefer neutral and muted? When you take a step back and look at this space, it somehow manages to read both neutral and bold depending on your perspective, and THAT is why I love the Palmyra print from my @clarke_clarke_interiors line! We have vibrant patterns and prints that seem to leap off the page, and others that feel mild and soothing. Custom decor will always be important in my design because of its exclusivity. I love the idea of having something that visitors will ONLY be able to see in interiors I design. It’s not just something I do for clients; I prefer to customize as much as I can for my own home projects, and i encourage homeowners to do it as much as budget reasonably allows.
