Debra Messing Instagram – I had a very special few days in Los Angeles. I was honored with the “Guardian of Israel” Award at the @standwithus International Summit. It was a gathering of 500 high school and college student leaders from all over the globe; Brazil, Germany, South Africa, Canada, etc. I was reunited with my travel mates to Israel, @brettgelman and @witchofthewestcoast who had a very powerful conversation with @mrmichaeldickson. I was surrounded with love from friends and chosen family, and the highlight was hearing @fiveforfightingmusic speak about his allyship with the Jewish people, and the incredible song he wrote, “OK.” If you haven’t heard it, check out the music video on his IG account. It was the first time in a very long time that I had reason to put on a dress and get beautified. Thank you @elaineoffers and @rodortegahairstylist I was also able to pop in and meet a group of beautiful 12 yr old survivors from Kibbutz Shuva, who were in LA for a healing retreat provided by @mamannonprofit and @waldorfbevhills and given a wellness day with meditation, sound baths, and therapeutic art. They have been through the unimaginable and they were weary but brave and grateful. And finally, I had the honor of hosting a book party for @sharonbrous to discuss her beautiful, healing book “The Amen Effect.” She mesmerized the attendees and left us all uplifted. His moral clarity, and unapologetic solidarity is a model for all those who have friends who are Jewish, and want to make their friend feel seen. Loved. This is not an either/or proposition. You can stand against Jewish Hate, wherever you see it, AND you can express heartbreak for the devastation in Gaza. Both can be true. For all of my friends, both are true. This is a Jewish allyship centered post. This is a celebration of the best of humanity. Because, as Rep. Torres says, the silence IS soul-crushing. If you are a friend who does not stand up and call out Jew hatred, you are not a friend. If you call yourself a progressive and will March and denounce hate and violence for every marginalized group in existence—-EXCEPT Jews, you are not an ally. You are an anti-Semite. Jew hate and violence has risen 400% since Oct 7th. Jews are targetted, beaten, spat on, blocked from entering spaces with other jews, hit with flag poles, strangled. This is the reality.
