Step 1: meet a handsome nerd at NASA
Step 2: have him teach you how to solve a Rubik’s Cube
Step 3: have your first kiss at a space shuttle launch
Step 4: build a life together 🫶🏻
Out of everything I’ve done in life, this life I’ve built with him is the thing I’m proudest of.
All success and all failures are shared. They mean more and hurt less because I have *them*. My family. My heart. 🚀
Made a pit stop before my book signing to say hello to Maia 💫

How do you ~have it all~?
My book comes out today and I want to take this chance to show appreciation for my husband, without whom I wouldn’t have been able to leave for the 7-city book tour of my dreams.
If you want a career and a family, the most important life decision you’ll make will be the partner you choose.
Find someone who values being a good parent and a good partner JUST as much as they value being good at their job.
Find someone who wants to be at the doctor’s appointments, who cares about the schools, who talks to their teachers, who wants to do the snuggles and the reading and the bottle feeding.
Who works hard to get good at the swaddling, the diaper changing, the hair braiding.
Who engages in conversation about mental and emotional workload of caretaking and housework and redistributes responsibilities as necessary.
Because they WANT to be good at this. They value THIS work.
And then when you find that – you’ll be able to briefly leave your babies to live out your dreams.
You’ll miss them terribly, but you won’t feel anxious about anything. They’ll be happy, healthy and well-cared for. They’ll get vegetables, baths, and teeth brushing. They’ll play and learn and be safe.
When you find the love of your life, you’ll create your own little family fairytale, just like in the storybooks.
And if that love is also a great partner – then you’ll ALSO be able to create another fairytale of your own making. One where you get to be ambitious and bold. Where you get to continue to learn and grow and experience all this world has to offer.
We get to have both of those things. I choose both, because I chose well. ❤️
I desperately wish I could go back and tell her 🥺
5 years ago I had my very first book signing in New York City.
I was so excited and so nervous! They ordered stacks and stacks of books.
I walked in, sat at the table behind the books and waited. And waited. And waited. And save for a couple of friends who knew me from home – not a single person came. Not a single one.
I was so embarrassed. Embarrassed that I had assumed people would come. Embarrassed that I had wasted the bookstore’s time. Embarrassed that I was trying to be an author and seemingly failing at it.
But the world does not end when we fail.
Because today, 5 years later, I’m bopping from city to city – signing books for hours on end, meeting hundreds of kids (little scientists!) at each and every stop.
Grateful to my publisher, to my team and most importantly to all of YOU for making this tour a reality!
Sold out crowd in SEATTLE tonight – see you soon!
An experiment from my #1NYTimes Best Seller 😉🧊🫧

Intentional fashion for my book tour 💗
My book is unlike any science book you’d see in a library or in school. It LOOKS like something you’d be more likely to find in @clairesstores than in science class.
💅🏻That was intentional. It’s designed to be bright, shiny and welcoming for all.
Lisa Frank meets Bill Nye.
I wanted to dress in the same way I fashioned my book. Bright, shiny and welcoming for all.
I noticed early on that when kids came to my book signings they would dress up: in their lab coats, their favorite space shirts, astronaut suits, pink Emily’s Wonder lab overalls, and most recently their best Professional Cupcake fits.
So I simply decided to follow suit!
Little kids come excited to show me their outfit AND their dreams. The most lovely combo. Kids are hanging out friendship bracelets and making friends with other little scientists in line.
My book signings feel like the science version of the Barbie movie and the Eras tour. The vibes are immaculate and I’m just honored to be part of it 💗
I…I don’t have a sister. 😜
Big ball of anxiety over here 🥺
See you soon NEW YORK CITY!! 🏙️ 🗽🍎

I partnered with @national4h to talk to 4-H kids about my path in STEM and careers in the space industry. #ad
What an incredible honor it was to work with such an impactful organization, changing kids lives across the country.
This year’s Ignite by 4-H Teen conference was a huge success (completely FULL registration) – so make sure you keep an eye out for it next year!
Did you or your kids participate in 4-H? 👇🏼
“I am trying to make sure that girls like me can see themselves in science”: Emily Calandrelli (@thespacegal) says her new book, “Stay Curious and Keep Exploring,” lets kids take the lead — while encouraging them to learn about the world around them.
