Come with me to HEB review Robert Irvin’s Fit Crunch Bars and look for healthy food options.

The fats and carbs in this bar are fairly close together and in higher quantities. It’s also full of sugars and ingredients that didn’t make me smile. Fats and carbs together in higher quantities will typically lead to increased LDL cholesterol and plaque build up in the arteries.
–
I always try to point out a positive option with every review, however I simply couldn’t get on board with this one and it’s hard to call this a healthy snack.
–
While they may taste good and are marketed as a “fit” bar and “protein bar” it’s important to remember that the packaging doesn’t always represent the food what’s inside.

By request, we visited Aldi to look for healthy food options and healthy snacks.

Knowing if you’re going to include carbs or leave them out of your nutrition plan, makes shopping so much easier. In this case, since I’m currently including carbs, I opted for complex carbs to minimize my blood sugar spike.

Do we need to load sodium?

On the daily, we get more than enough sodium in our diet – even on keto.
–
Even with losing some water weight in keto, it’s mainly potassium and magnesium we’re deficient in. This is because we get a ton of sodium through all of our foods and seasonings.

More sodium actually triggers hunger cravings and causes water retention.

Healthy food at Aldi part 3.

Breakfast for most people is loaded in sugar and causes a big glucose and insulin spike. The result is an energy crash a few hours later, along with other not-so-good health side effects.

Try to look for complex carbs (if you’re keeping carbs in your nutrition plan), low fats, and low added sugars.
–
Always pair with protein and some dietary fiber like veggies whenever possible.

Healthy coffee creamer at HEB.

Most creamers have added sugars and are basically just cream and sugar. So it’s fats and simple carbs.
–
Low sugar, less than 5 grams, will keep you in keto – if that’s your nutrition style.
–
For a carb-based nutrition plan, we want to keep the fats low, so we’d look for a low-fat creamer like the A2 creamer (which actually works for any nutrition style). Add a little stevia, monkfruit, or your favorite healthy sugar substitute and you’re good to go.

That aside, I was still able to find a few options for protein sources, fat sources, and veggies. This way, we can easily include or omit fats and carbs depending on our nutrition style.

Part 1 – Finding tortillas that qualified as healthy foods was harder than it seemed.

In the end, most tortillas had some type of hydrogenated oil in it. These are trans fats and have been proven to increase the risk of heart health.

The almond flour tortillas were a total win for overall health, calories, and macros.

These are a great plant-based option BUT –

There are carbs in these are net carbs have no real science behind them.
–
Dr. Atkins pulled his net carbs metrics from all Atkins products in the early 2000’s because there simply was no science behind it and it was misleading (Source: “Atkins Labels Will Drop Term ‘Net Carbs’” Wall Street Journal, Oct 6, 2004).
–
The carbs in these bars are healthy complex carbs so IF you’re keeping carbohydrates in your nutrition plan, these are a great option.
–
My daughter, Mia, didn’t like the taste of the bars, but I didn’t mind them. It’s the stevia and monkfruit she was tasting, which are both acceptable sweeteners but they can have a little bit of an after taste to them.
