It’s a vital part of every community, especially mine.
So it’s no surprise that I want to amplify what our local Drama Department is up to.
These kids (and grownups) are hard at work putting together a production of “James and the Giant Peach” that goes up in just a few short weeks.
They have created a registry for items that they need to put on this show. The link to that is in my bio! Every small donation adds up and means the world to these kids.

Fun fact:
Back in 2020, my first book Rural Diaries was pitched as a scripted TV show.
I’m sitting here mapping out chapters for my next book. Fiction this time. And while going through old files I found the pitch document for Rural Diaries. It felt good to fictionalize my own story….allowed for freedom and wish fulfillment and waaaaay more juicy drama. Haha.
It was mid-pandemic and it didn’t sell. But I fell very much in love with these characters. Ira Gutner was in there, as well as a certain candy store. (😘 @samuelssweetshop )
The fictional counterpart to @hackettfarm1 was run by a wonderful couple based on @telferhackett and Ed Hackett, but named after my dear @bjohnson54 and @brucejohnson7413 while he still alive.
A dashing and gruff actor steals the heroine’s heart and gives up his old life to live with her on a farm. Wonder who that was based on?!
My very real village of Rhinebeck was cross pollinated with the old school WB shows of the early aughts and the sitcoms of my childhood.
It was a fun experiment to work on. Stories of young women finding themselves always make me smile. There’s magic in living a life that feels like a good story.

In the civil suit, a jury found that Pat Chisenhall was not acting in self-defense and was responsible for the death of Christian Griggs, awarding $250,000 to Christian Grigg’s estate. While this was an important step towards justice, Dolly, Tony, and the entire Grigg’s family continue to be vocal about the fact that the DA has a responsibility: to bring criminal charges against Pat Chisenhall. The Griggs continue to fight for Christian and for justice.

The Griggs are determined to get whatever justice they can for their son, Christian. With the help of an attorney, Robby Jessup, they file a civil lawsuit against Pat Chisenhall. The team discusses the trial and the verdict.

After pursuing the evidence, Lee Denney still isn’t convinced that Christian Griggs was shot in self defense. He attempts to bring this information to the DA, but gets nowhere. But Lee isn’t alone in questioning the Chishenhall’s narrative – WRAL the local TV station in Angier begin to question the events of October 12, 2013.
