One of the things on “the never day” (diagnosis day)we were told was that RJ would never say I love you, unprompted, or in any meaningful way to his parents. First of all, why would you ever speak that into existence?…secondly NEVER let anybody determine the possibilities of your child. When RJ first said “ I love you to us” we didn’t record it so whenever I witness this moment happen for another family I am immediately triggered back to the days of his diagnosis.
Today 23 years later he says I Love You about 30 times a day!!! 💓💓 but even for someone who isn’t able to develop verbal communication-There are so many ways to say I love you. #autism #possibilities #neversaynever #autismacceptance

I had the opportunity to do the Keynote speech this morning at the YMCA Good Friday breakfast. I took the beginning of my speech to tribute my friend of decades, Mr. Louis Gossett Jr.. I had just found out about his passing and I’m just devastated. 💔💔What a treasure of a man!! Without a doubt one of the nicest most gracious talented funny and kind people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. I used to babysit for his son when I was a teenager. A world without Lou doesn’t make sense.
