Iza Calzado Instagram – Faces and Flora. 💐
These Masterpieces of art by @janvmayo were created with UP Diliman Institute of Biology and the Philippine Taxonomic Initiative to bring to light our country’s native and endemic flora.
“Melochia umbellata, commonly known as labayo, is a native tree found in the Philippines. The epithet of its scientific name comes from the Latin word “umbellatus” which means umbel-like. However, unlike what its name suggests, the labayo has corymb inflorescence or flat-topped flower arrangement.”
“Crateva religiosa, commonly known as salingbobog, belongs to the Caper family. Salingbobog is a naturally occurring tree in the Philippines. It inhabits inundated forests and is usually found in low-elevated areas and rarely seen in places with medium elevations. During its flowering season in summer, the salingbobog shows various colors as it blooms.”
If you’d like to visit the exhibition, it is located at the Upper Courtyard of the National Museum of Natural History! Open Tuesdays to Sundays, 9 AM to 5 PM. Free admission, too! 🤗 | Posted on 12/Mar/2024 16:19:11
