Turns out I took spring break a little too literally. I broke my right shoulder and will be in a sling for the next six weeks followed by physical therapy. Next step of the journey! Broke my shoulder six weeks ago and this week I got to start physical therapy. My shoulder was not happy about it. And, wow, I really can’t move it. It’s going to take a few months but so grateful to be at a new stage of recovery. (And also very grateful to my husband Lee who has been driving me to all of these appointments since I can’t drive. He’s the best.) Thank you everyone for your encouraging messages! To all my buddies out there rehabbing from injury or surgery…we got this! 💪

Exciting news. Shoulder is still broken but healing well. I can take the sling off while at home and I get to start physical therapy next week. I can also partially curl my hair now. (Just in the front.) #onthemend

If you’ve seen the movie and wondered why Ms. Heron has a crossbody purse in the middle of a field in the opening scene it’s because my shoulder was broken in real life. I had broken it just two weeks earlier and I was using the purse as a substitute for my sling. There is only one scene in the movie that my shoulder wasn’t broken. I thought I wanted a big dance party to ring in my 50th birthday. But as it got closer, what I wanted more than anything, was to travel someplace I’d never been and hibernate with my family. So we did. We went off the grid to Joshua Tree. We hiked and laughed and took in the majesty of stars. I also got a birthday walk with my BFF @angelakinsey and ran into my birthday buddy @bryancranston on the way out of town. I think I’ll do the big dance party next year for my 51st. But this year was just perfect. Thank you for all of your cards and messages. Here’s to my 50s…the decade of tooting your own horn and giving zero effs! @joshuatreenps
