An anonymous woman, whose face I never saw, put this rock into my hand as I was being lifted onto a stretcher. She whispered into my ear that it was for good luck. When I finally got to the operating room and was being prepped for my first surgery, one of the assistants asked me what was in my fist. I realized I had been holding onto it since then without realizing. Thank you to that woman (if anyone knows who she is, please tell me) and to all of my amazing nurses, doctors, physical/occupational therapists and surgeons at NYP and Mount Sinai. Thank you to my sister for moving heaven and earth to get to me during a global pandemic and travel ban. Thank you to all of my friends for being there, without hesitation, and for sending your mums, friends and sisters when you couldn’t. Thank you to my hospital room mate for being who you are and for making me laugh, even when there wasn’t much to laugh about. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and helped in every and any way they could. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
We made a movie. It may or may not be on Netflix now (we’re not sure). Go Polaroid!

The new game night.
Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. Overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the USA. If you or a loved one are struggling, find out where you can get a dose of the opioid-overdose-reversal drug naloxone near you using this interactive map of the USA. Link to it in my bio. Naloxone is safe and easy for anyone to use. No one has to die of an opioid overdose.

Death also has an impact on freedom #Repost @guardian ・・・ This is the moment a group of healthcare workers blocked the cars of anti-lockdown protesters in Denver, Colorado, who want coronavirus restrictions to be lifted. One woman protester was seen shouting; “Land of the free. Go to China if you want communism” in front of a healthcare worker in scrubs on a pedestrian crossing. Colorado has reported 9,730 Covid-19 cases and 420 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. The state’s governor Jared Polis has announced that the lockdown will remain until 26 April. The number of anti-lockdown protests across the US are increasing, with demonstrators arguing they are having an impact on their livelihoods and personal freedoms. I know there are hundreds of organizations worth your money and attention right now and that not everyone is in the financial position to donate, but if you are looking for a cause to donate to today @hhcla is asking for any donation, big or small, as part of Giving Tuesday Now. Throughout the pandemic they have continued to operate their hygiene station, so that the residents of Skid Row can have access to running water, soap and laundry facilities; their housing case managers have continued to move people into housing, conduct home visits and provide food, supplies, and emergency support and their syringe exchange has remained open 7 days a week. If you’d like and are able to, you can donate to HHCLA through the link in my bio. #Repost @hhcla ・・・ Dear Friends, Everything has changed but it’s business as usual at HHCLA. We are open and providing essential services for people experiencing homelessness. The ReFresh Spot is open 24/7 and provides access to hand-washing, showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities. Our outreach workers provide services on the street and in encampments. Our housing case managers are moving people into housing, doing home visits, providing food, supplies, and emergency support. Our CENS substance use assessors continue to conduct screenings and referrals. Our behavioral health team provides substance use treatment. Our syringe exchange is open 7 days/week from 8am-4pm and saves lives by providing overdose prevention/naloxone, safer injection supplies and medical detox. We stay committed to our mission. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Mark Casanova Executive Director Homeless Health Care Los Angeles
#Repost @mayorofla (@get_repost) ・・・ There is no food shortage in the city of Los Angeles. You do not need to rush to the grocery store. I know a lot of Angelenos are feeling anxious about these uncertain and difficult times, but rest assured our markets will remain open and well-stocked. Remember, we’re all in this together and shouldn’t hoard more than we need. Please practice social distancing when you shop.
