When I read The Young Wife script I saw Celestina with glitter tear drops on the day of her non-wedding wedding reflecting the mask she feels the pressure to wear carrying the weight of the inevitable future. I listened to a lot of Leon Bridges who plays my soon to be husband. I heard Tout Fout L’camp at a clown show in Montreal in 2019. I listened to it before most scenes. Tout Fout L’camp translates to “Everything’s falling apart!!” Sheryl Lee Ralph, who plays my mom spoke French in the movie and I imagined Celestina yelling the song with her mother when things weren’t so great – they’d end up falling into laughter. Celly went on to share it with Cookie played by Judith Light. They’d sing, scream and laugh.
