I smiled at him afterwards like I had enjoyed what just happened; I smiled like I was in on the obscene gesture; I smiled like I wouldn’t mind if he did it again. That stupid little smile. . I would mind if he did it again. My body resented my stupid smile. My words remained in my chest, and that smile was my only recourse. . I am grateful for the steps I have taken towards myself again. I feel confident that this situation would not happen the same again today. The person I am now wouldn’t smile or be silent. I pray that these situations stop altogether. But until we live in a perfect world, I pray that we can all take bigger and bigger steps towards what we all deserve, bodily autonomy & respect. 🫶🏼
