Now that the major Party nominees are all but sewn up, you can almost hear the collective “Ugh, not again…” Democratic and media elites who decided it was best to basically skip a primary – promoting the canard that “We don’t do that when there’s an incumbent President (“Did you hear that, Eugene McCarthy?”), muffling the voices and suppressing campaigns of anyone but their anointed candidate – have hardly delivered us to an inspiring moment of political possibility. The most excitement you get from establishment Democrats these days is celebrating the fact that the President finished a State of the Union without losing his train of thought.
And that’s a problem, because Donald Trump has a lot of excitement on his side. So does Robert Kennedy, Jr. for that matter. The idea that a message of “Be afraid, be very afraid,” or “Cheer up, 39% of you are skipping meals to make the rent but the stock market is doing great, so be happy!” is not going to win the election for Democrats in 2024. The blunt truth is that a person has to be somewhat privileged to think that saving democracy is the only thing – or even the most important thing – we have to think about in 2024.
The uncomfortable reality is that to a hungry person, putting food on the table does seem more important than saving democracy. If anything, history shows that desperate people are more, not less attracted to a political strongman. And that’s what makes this moment so dangerous.
Democrats desperately need to awaken from the establishment-concocted trance that led us to this moment. The Party is bleeding voters now – from Black voters, to Asian voters, to young voters, to Latino voters. The idea that raising the money to buy enough TV ads is going to be enough to put the 2020 Biden coalition back together again is a very weak plan for victory in 2024. Reaching out to people, actually speaking to their material needs, would be a far more winning strategy.

They say I’m unserious for no other reason than that they know how serious I am. #Marianne2024
When 39% of Americans are regularly skipping meals in order to pay their rent and millions of people are selling their blood plasma in order to survive, we still have a whole lot more to talk about. #Marianne2024
I came across this picture of a fire dancer who I saw at a restaurant in Atlanta. I was with wonderful friends and volunteers at a modern Latin restaurant and she came to entertain our table. It seems like a poetic expression of the work that has gone on in our campaign over the last year. I love the image of casting light in the midst of darkness, dancing dangerously and creating beautiful patterns that transform the air around the woman as she moves.
I never really knew misogyny before this campaign. I knew it existed, of course, but it had never blocked my way. I had never seen it up close, felt its viciousness or experienced the full breath of its effort to annihilate who a woman is. I hadn’t realized it’s both a conscious and an unconscious phenomenon, diminishing all of us as it throws any woman against the rocks if she dares to refuse to feed the monster. It will take me a long time to understand it all, or to find what medicine for others I might be able to create from having gone through the storm that I have been through. I do know this: the biggest goal of woman-hate in modern society is to make a woman lose faith in herself, to believe there’s something ugly about who she is, to lose her self-confidence, and most importantly, make her stop fire dancing.
I hope I never do. Within every woman there is a fire dancer, and at a time like this we desperately need the light.

Too many of our leaders are emotionally buffered from the economic stress of everyday Americans. Washington has become like a psychologically walled city. #Marianne2024
It’s time to end America’s War on Drugs, and to treat addiction as a health issue instead of a criminal one. We need a Recovery Czar, not a Drug Czar. #Marianne2024
Think how different this country will be when it’s not riddled with chronic economic anxiety on the part of so many people. #Marianne2024
The Supreme Court is one of three co-equal branches of government. It was never intended to be the ultimate final say no matter what. #Marianne2024
It was journalistic malpractice for mainstream media outlets to suppress the candidacies of any Democrat but Biden. They shilled for the idea that the only way to protect our democracy is to suppress democracy, thereby creating the biggest threat of all: widespread disinterest on the part of way too many.

Every generation has to rediscover for itself the radicalism of the Declaration of Independence. If government is not securing our right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness “, it is our “right to alter it…” #Marianne2024
Werner Earhart said you can live your life according to circumstances or you can live your life according to a vision. Circumstances can be quite dire, but we are unlimited in our capacity to create a vision in our minds. Sharing a vision with others is an explosive psychological power, because an idea is stronger when it’s shared. When people come together to share a vision of what’s possible, we begin to co-create a better version of the human experience.
We can share a vision of a world without war. A vision of the planet repaired. A vision of all people fed. A vision all people educated. A vision of all people loved. A vision of all people flourishing. A vision of a world at peace. A vision of all children cared for. A vision of a world in which violence and war are memories of a barbaric time which no longer exists.
These pictures are from my talk in New Orleans last night, sharing with wonderful people the vision of an America in which 39% of people are not regularly skipping meals in order to pay the rent, our food is healthy, our economy works for everyone and not just a few, an approved Medicare for All has removed the incredible burdens of lack of healthcare from the shoulders of so many millions of people, college and tech school are tuition free as in other advanced democracies, our country transitions from a dirty economy to a clean economy and from a war economy to a peace economy, and America begins a new chapter of our history.
Martin Luther King Jr. said “your life begins to end on the day you stop talking about things that matter.” To me, the end of suffering is what matters most. To that end, let us continue to envision. And let us continue to act.
I will be speaking in New Orleans again tonight! First Universalist Church at 7pm. Let’s incubate a new America.
Policies that help people thrive are never a financial depressant, they are a financial stimulant. That which expands opportunity for the average American – healthcare, education etc. – in time expands our economy. #Marianne2024
When it comes to our personal lives, we get all analytical and deep. But when it comes to our political lives, we’re in the habit of farming out our critical thinking. Letting “political experts” do our thinking for us is acquiescing to the system that brought us to the place we’re at now. #Marianne2024

If we’re among the top 20% of American earners, it’s too easy to buffer ourselves emotionally from the economic despair the majority of Americans live with daily.
But things do not have to be this way; people’s lives can improve. We cannot give up. We need to just keep pushing. The nominee is chosen but the conversation is far from over. Please support my staying on the trail, harnessing the conversation, creating the opportunity for influence.
This journey is far from over…

When my career began, a crisis was usually an exception and not the rule in someone’s life. Now, for so many millions of people a state of crisis is the rule and not the exception. And that has everything to do with bad public policy. #Marianne2024

The problem at the Southern border was entirely preventable. Now that it’s upon us we need to get into the solution-but the solution doesn’t lie in demonizing immigrants. It lies in addressing the actual problems not only on the level of symptom but also on the level of root cause. #Marianne2024

The problem isn’t that some people can get rich in America; the problem is that not nearly enough people ever get a chance to. You cannot have a thriving democracy if you don’t have a thriving middle class. #Marianne2024
