Nakkiah Lui, a Gamillaroi and Torres Strait Islander woman and multihyphenate creative, has had a mammoth couple of years since appearing on the first cover of the relaunched Harper’s BAZAAR in October 2021. Two years on, she returns as our October Digital cover star. In the time between, busier than the busiest person you know, she gave birth to her daughter, Lux, became the first First Nations Australian to score a television writing deal with HBO, and released Audible podcast, ‘FIRST EAT’, which has been recently nominated for an Australian Podcast Award. In a rare moment of quiet, we asked her to sit down with her mother to talk about #TheVoice referendum, what has changed for her community in her lifetime, and her hopes for Lux’s future.
