And we did return, triumphant. As heroes. Again and again. A little show that started 7 years ago with all the dreams of becoming something grand. We sure got there – probably grander and wilder than anyone expected. And I was pleased as punch to have played this fruit loop, Penelope, who, for all seven seasons, managed to surprise if not rise. What better way for a villain to go out than as a traitor to her country! 👹 sending love to all the cast and crew I met along the way, the directors who took me under their wing (@maggiekiley.director @robseidenglanz @ltkrieger @tessasimages) and @writerras who punched it all through, sending me on a path that will now see me direct my first feature film and act alongside A-list cast this coming January – I’ll be posting, keep an eye!
But most of all, thanks to the fans who have, many of them, grown up with Riverdale and, I hope, found solace in the pain and passion of our show. No matter how insane your life is, it’s no crazier than the Town with Pep! Fun to think that once long ago, I was reading Archie comics as a kid in South Africa ( it was the first time I’d read the word ‘enlightened’ and have been chasing its meaning ever since!) ,without an inking that I’d one day BE one of the characters. The sun is red, the sky is grey, my lungs and eyes are burning – Canada is once again so devastated by wildfires that it’s hard to breathe but easy to believe that the end is nigh. Is this what our last years on this planet will look like- only worse and worse with each year? Why are banks (@rbc @jpmorganchase @wellsfargo @scotiabank @td_canada yes you) financing oil extraction to the tune of TRILLIONS of dollars?! Why do our ‘representatives’ continue to drag their heels instead of immediately halting old growth logging? Why are indigenous communities with the deepest wisdom of nature not only ignored but abused in their attempt to give guidance? Why are we funding idiotic wars that will go nowhere but backwards instead of placing every last penny into passionate and panic-fuelled climate action? We SHOULD be panicking. People in Yellowknife and Kelowna sure are. If we don’t shift our systems NOW, we are done. Ask yourself WTF are we as humans choosing with every decision we make?
