Paola Velez Instagram – How people see bread in the US is absolutely different than how people see bread abroad. Take this with a grain of salt because it’s just my opinion, but we see bread as a lowly vessels or means to an end to get our proteins into our mouths. I’m looking at you avocado toast lover. But it’s so much more than that. The same way that we view Mother sauces in cooking, we should be viewing yeasty breads like brioche, flatbreads, quick bread (cornbread), Leavened (sourdough) breads and beyond. We have a whole aisle dedicated to bread in our grocery stores and yet we still don’t value bread as an art form.
I grew up in a very Latin household that valued pan sobao and pan de agua as delicacies. Now in my household, we value baguettes, brioche, pan sobao and pan de agua as our champs!
What are your thoughts? Should we change how “America” sees and values bread?
Or does That open up another can of worms? Like the fact that we don’t respect pastries and baked goods like they do in other countries.
