He was born in rural Zimbabwe to missionary school teachers and spent the greater part of his childhood herding cattle, not wearing shoes until age 12. Naturally brilliant and very hardworking, he received scholarships to study in the States, settling in Birmingham, Alabama where he had a thriving medical practice for over 40 years. He was the nicest and most generous man, enriching the lives of so many. An excellent physician, he was beloved by his patients. And could charm like no other! He gave all of the glory and honor to God. It’s the great blessing of my life to have had him as a father. It’s been 6 years since he passed away, but those familiar with grief know there’s no time at all. Love you forever, Daddy ❤️ xo, Your Chippa ❤️

December is emotionally complicated and the 21st is the most complicated day of it for me. On December 21st 8 years ago, my beautiful 1st baby girl was born. 2 years later on the same date, I lost my beloved big sister, Koliwe. One date contains my greatest joy and my greatest sorrow. I spend the day showering my baby girl with b’day love while keeping a broken heart in my back pocket. That’s life, I guess: joy and pain all at once. Grief and celebration. I proudly took my 100th #slt class today @sltnyc! I’m not a skinny minny and never will be – just not in my genetic cards. Despite that, each week I’ve taken my curvy African body to a class where I’m usually the only black woman and the only person over a size 6. While admiring the Cartier bracelets of my classmates, I work hard to focus on my health and strength — not just physical, but also mental. It’s been a very challenging year, to say the least, with loss, child care responsibilities, elder care stress, an actors’ strike, and various other bumps along the way, but when I get on the #Megaformer it’s just me, the instructor’s voice, and my will to keep going. And lots of sweat 💦 For that hour, everything else melts away and afterwards, I’ve done something really hard and really good for MYSELF. Thanks to the crew at #sltshorthills namely @jbuurma @facesbylucy for always encouraging me. I did it and here’s to 100 more!!!
