It’s your birthday and I am looking through old photos of you to post and i’m giggling, tearing, chuckling, choked up. oh look, didn’t we make this photo into a notebook door gift one birthday? and here, didn’t Popo save the day when the icing on the cake got smudged? here, you’re in a cat-suit and we had puppets. here, a birthday quiche; here, a birthday ham; here, a birthday chicken pie. Because for the longest time, you didn’t eat cake. i look at your little friends in the photos and they’re all your not-so-little friends still. Cos that’s the sort of friend you are. when did you lengthen out from chubby cheeks? It happened overnight. you’re 4, you’re 10, you’re 19, you’re 21, here, here, here and here. every day of your life is the perfect day, the perfect moment and all i really ever need and all i’ll ever really ever need. Here, you’re 26, and such a good girl, and working so hard catching your dreams, and loving the people you love fiercely and without apology. you are always the most beautiful girl in the world to me and i don’t care how you came to this bunged up body of mine. you did. happy 26 birthday, my love. the first key word here is “birth”. You were born and i knew true love. The 2nd key word here is “happy”. Because you make me so happy. so, very very happy.

Tokyo daze. Creatively directed by my own @shiiiannn, lovingly shot by @nickyeo @bootneck_45 and @shiiiannn herself. @juicekitchendw always the patient stand-by support. Shinjuku’s shiok. After that, Shibuya, lah! In between makan some matcha ice cream @nanaya_aoyama and omurice Cafe Marly. We walked, bbq’d sweet potato, 2 types, in our hands from a van outside Meiji Shrine through the park , across railway tracks and within a cosy sweet residential enclave, a fat gray cat waved from a balcony. Very Murakami, I know. When the light said go, creative director @shiiiannn said stop let’s take some shots here and the team went into action. Me included. This is stressless, so fun, serendipitous type of social media. We wanted to showcase our appreciation for our @igcasia clothes and bags while going about our Tokyo day exactly like how we would’ve anyway. We styled ourselves, mother-daughter, one label but in two completely different styles because that’s how we are! So similar, so different, so cut from the same cloth. Thank you @igcasia , for giving us another way to enjoy triapsing around Tokyo, and thank you Tokyo. You are always strange, and intriguing, and beguiling, and buzzing and baffling, and beloved by @shiiiannn and I. It’s the umphteenth time I’ve come and it’ll not be the last!

This gang. I love this gang. Ski conditions weren’t ideal. The telegram group name was “Ja-Pow” but really, it should have been “Ja-Slush”. And there were days when it was foggy. But nobody complained. This gang – we are mother & daughter; sister & brother; young couple; old couple; older partnership; younger partnership; just building careers; just retired; still in the game; still pondering next steps; left brained; right brained. Every day there is active discovering, active loving. Way-finding. But way finding in the best way possible because it is just solidly built on thickly packed love. When the days got slushy, and visibility was poor, we entertained ourselves learning tricks (slush is good for ski tricks) and building ramps. Luxury travelers we are not – our apres ski is Pokky, free hotel chocolate and rice crackers. We have fallen in love with this run down little Japanese ski ryokan run by a staff whose average age is around 65 and work tirelessly all day every day. Everywhere is charmingly 70s floral tiles, maroon velvet seats, still life paintings of vases and pastel futons. It’s all very Stranger Things but minus the darkness and cynicism. It’s all heart, and good food, and multi-tasking individuals manning the ski rentals, serving the miso and bringing out the beer. And you know what? We like it like that. Because this gang is a bit like that. Every one of us, multi-tasking work-relationship-purpose-fluff-serious stuff! Just wanting to be better, and kinder, and moving towards a type of peace. That’s all I ever ask for. That’s all I ever ask for. Thank you @shiiiannn @nickyeo @juicekitchendw @bootneck_45 I’m having a helluva time.
